I finally clutched it up in 2nd!!

camaro_forums -> I finally clutched it up in 2nd!! (5/14/2008 2:44:42 AM)

     Ya so I don't think I've ever posted in this section before, but I'm just so excited I have to share. I've been experimenting with 1st gear power wheelies, and have really been having a blast with them. My buddy was explaining the process of clutching it up in 2nd to me, but I just never could seem to get it to do more than lunge forward or jump up 2 inches.

    Well today I go out, and start out in 1st from a light, shift to 2nd....and it feels right, I have open road ahead of me slightly uphill, nice straight road with no cars so I sit back halfway in the seat, pull the clutch in, proceed to rev it up to about 11-13 thousand rpm's and just kinda sit back and let the clutch out fast yet smooth and "WHALAHH" up it comes. So smooth and natural.

    I'm never going to do 1st gear wheelies again [:D] Ok I'm sure I will, but this revelation is just so sweet and fulfilling. I think I wasn't revving it high enough, combined with sitting on the gas tank practically when I tried to get it up before.  Anyhow, I think I have it down halfway now, cuz I spent all afternoon practicing. WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME 2ND GEAR WHEELIES WERE MORE FUN!!

Peace out guys, keep it safe out there.

i hear ya man, i did my first REAL 2nd gear standup yesterday too....i was basically doing the same thing as you...not giving it enough time to actually rev up before i dumped the clutch, moreso just slipping it and all id get it a 2inch popup...finally threw it up high enough to ride it out for alittle bit and it felt great!!

now its time to do a ton of practice and eventually find that ever so sweet balance point.

keep your foot covering that back brake at all times and enjoy man, i know i loved that feeling of FINALLY doing a real wheelie [:D]

Yeah second is a lot diffrent than first. Good to hear that your doing away with the power wheelie, their fun, but not as fun as clutching.

just keep playing with your clutch.. in first gear, i would get it around 30-35mph (4-5Krpm) pull the clutch in and rev to 7-8Krpm, then swiftly let the clutch out - this will probably get what you are looking for.. remember to start small and just practice - even if your riding around, there is no harm if your fooling around with your clutch and throttle. just remember to wear your gear, dont be stupid (alot of traffic around), dont get cocky (just because someone saw you and you couldnt get it up, dont think you have to show off), make sure it's a straight road, no blind spots and other things.. you can be safe while on the road, just use commen sense when your playing with the clutch and/or pulling a wheelie.. I highly suggest you find a closed enviroment so you can just concentrate on your bike instead of other variables.

hope this helps abit.. like i said, i'm only able to do 1st gear wheelies - i've gotten some in the 2nd gear, but i'm taking it easy to learn. But 1st gear wheelie is better then a power wheelie anyday - so get out of that habit ASAP.

My crazy sprocket lets me pull sitdowns up in 3rd to bp.

4th comes up quite a bit, but I have yet to get it all the way to bp in a sitdown there...  I bet if I bounced it, I could pull it up in 5th, maybe even 6th?  6th has so little torque tho... 5th I believe is possible in a standup.

Thanks for the feedback guys...I'm getting quite a bit better, but I'm taking it slow, no need to ruin my beautiful bike. Tried to clutch it up the other day on cold tires... To everyone as stupid as me, DON'T DO IT. Lol i left a strip of rubber like 20 feet long.

G3NESYS -> RE: I finally clutched it up in 2nd!! (5/23/2008 10:40:11 AM)

yea ive been wanting to learn to do this too.
my friend always does first gear power wheelies about 6 inches off the ground and hes gettin gbetter at them... inever thought i would try wheelies just because im usually a conservative person and i like to be safe, but ive been trying to get the front wheel off lately, and i have been... and i knew the term "clutching up in second" and could guess about what u hvae to do to do it, but never felt comfortable trying it bc i dont want to flip backwards... but if u have to get up to 11k rpms to get up high, then ill be more willing to try now, just doing it at like 5 and 6k, then maybe stepping it up slowly.

i cant wait to see my friends face when im clutching up, and hes the one always trying to do them, haha.

camaro_forums -> RE: I finally clutched it up in 2nd!! (5/24/2008 4:07:54 AM)

Lol trust me, I'm sure it varies some by make and type of bike, but on mine if you're at 5 or 6 and rev it to 8 or 9, its only coming up a couple inches, even if you're sitting back on the seat.
