Hey Guys; I'm looking into getting some saddle bags for my '05 F4i. I'm looking at Joe Rocket sports saddle bags. Does anyone have them? What I'm wondering is, does the strap fit under the seat (banana) and do the bags clear the exhaust (pictures would be great!). The other considerations would be the Nelson Rigg Silver Streak delux (150) or the Cortech Sports Saddlebag. Any personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

I have the cortech saddle bags. Pictures here: http://gallery.atpic.com/13812 The bags have a strap that you attach the front of each bag to the passenger peg. This stops the bags sliding back. I then put the back strap above the tail light - this stops the bags sliding forward. Later if you want more space the top bag snaps onto these saddle bags... and the cortech 14L tank bag is fantastic. Walking advert - all available at New Enough. When you check out you can mention a bike club - and that gives them a dollar (and costs you nothing).

Just got the nelson rigg silver streak ones. They look really good from the side. They hold a lot of stuff. I got the smaller ones. I can put my rugby gear a change of clothes and some other small stuff. They are very secure and I like them a lot. I can snap some pics later in is pouring rain out.

I got the Nelson Rig Mini saddle bags and magnetic tank bag. I got the minis because the regular(longer) and large(longer and wider) sizes appeared to cover the passenger footpegs. So far they have been great. They fit about 1 grocery bags each of food. Between the luggage and my Ogio NoDrag back pack i can pick up groceries good for about 2-3 weeks. P.S. i don't work or have any affiliation with New Enough dot com but when i was shoppinga round for the saddle bags they had the best price hands down. ~70 bucks.

Cool info guys....I was just browsing through the DK catalog today and noticed that they use an F4i for their model to take pics of saddlebags..I'm wanting to get something as when I ride to work I need to bring stuff the day before in my car(change of clothes, food etc) Saddlebags or the rear seat bag? Hmmm that is the question Goose

I want to get some cargo space also. The choice on top box or saddle bags is preference. You can take a top box and perminantly mount it to a seat tray and have something that comes off and on easily (as long as the seat is secure enough). I would rather get two side bags, keep the weight low. It would probably carry more than one top box (not sure, depending on model) and you could always add a top box if you need more space. I want to do some long trips and it is my belief that if you own a motorcycle it is necessary to do a cross country trip. It all depends on what you want in luggage, accessability (to the trunk space and the ability to remove them for security and whatnot), space, looks, type/style or keep in mind other cargo you would carry (Tent, bed roll, ect, ect).

Depends on how much space you need... if I only needed over night stuff - I'd take my tank bag. For a 5 night 4000km ride (tomorrow) I'll take side/top and tank. Left side for clothes (away from exhaust if there is a problem), right side for tools (heavy), top for sleeping bag, spare sweater, tank for electronics, toll money, and maps, plus spare sweater... tent straps onto the top of the tail bag or in it if I pack very carefully.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like no one has tried the large Nelson Rigg saddle's (SSC-150 Deluxe Sport Saddlebag) but are quite happy with the mini ones (SSC-140 Mini Sport Saddlebag). Nobody near me carries either of them, so I have to order online without seeing if they fit. I'd like to try the bigger ones, but I think I'll wait to see if anyone knows if they'll fit. Amnesia

Here is an old list I had started: - Tent - Sleeping bag - Tarp/plastic for under the tent... - bug spray - large clear garbage bags - thermarest (if it fits) - bungee cords - mini-flashlight (I have a crank one) - Basic tool kit - spare fuses :D - duct tape - zip ties - tire pump - tire gauge - tire patch/plug kit? - chain lube - oil (my bike drinks it) - spare bike key - knife - fork? - water bottles - granola (om nom nom nom) - zip lock bags - wash kit - mini towel - chap stick - mini first aid kit - Pain medicine for aches - sweater - sweat pants - spare gloves (winter/summer) - sneakers - thick socks - riding pants or shorts... something without hard seams. - Passport - Phone list - Insurance documents! - Toll money / small US money - GPS - FRS - heated vest? - camera? - phone? - AAA batteries for FRS radio backup - FRS radio charger - tin foil for our fish ;) - fishing tackle ;) - salt - mini-becel packs For tools - spark plug, phillips, slot head, hex for the plastics, 27/21/8 for the chain, vice grips and a medium length bar if on a long trip. Zipties, electrical tape and duct tape. Can patch up plastics with that if you have too... and a utility knife TAPED shut! I have a small multihead screw driver that is handy for most jobs as well - including a punch tool. That'll get you started anyhow :D
