Sorry guys...

What size plug tool do I need to fit my plugs - Haynes manual only says "Suitable Tool"

I am guessing 16mm - but dont want to  buy the wrong one

Hey Harry - still playing in that garage - haha

The plugs are 18mmAF - I bought a 16 and it didn't fit

afraid so mate - was tinkering 'til 2am last night.

Bloody bike has started running like crap (Literally overnight)
Similar to the other posts here - sounds like its misfiring - so expecting a fouled plug - fuel is only 1 week old and airfilter is spotless

Bit confused though - doing a search for an 18mm tool isn't showing anything?

I think you will find the size is 3/4 inch. Sparkplugs are imperial sizes.

Just use an 18mm deep well socket similar to this:

Just make sure it's deep enough to reach the plug....and a suitable drive for the ratchet your using..

Its NOT 3/4" , it's 18mm.  Please dont strip the plug.......and use a proper sparkplug socket (with the little rubber inside) it makes it soooooooo much easier to get the plug in and out.  it helps from "dropping" the plug into the plug hole.  If it lands on the electrode it will reduce your gap if you bend it.....just food for thought :O)   And start the plugs ALWAYS by hand before putting a rachet on it, finger tight and one half turn to tighten.

are u sure you havnt run out of gas?, mine when fuel switch is on main, when runs out starts dropping cylinders, first time it happened to me i was like wtf? then switched to reserve and was ok, anyway just a thought

yep - definatley not a 3/4 cos the one I bought doesn't fit [:(]

managed to borrow one and will order the one Deano linked to (Cheers) (3rd plug was dirtier than I would like but still firing)

Definatley have fuel and bike will fire up with easystart and then run (ok but not well) but once turned off for few minutes will then not restart.

It actually reminds me of the vapour lock I used to get on my '72 beetle  - so I'm thinking carbs problem - will try some carb cleaner tomorrow and then maybe get a price for a balance (anyone got an idea how much I should be paying for a balance in the UK?)


Also Idle speed is all over the place sometimes 1000 some times 2500 and anywhere in between

Any comments greatly appreciated

? odd mine started to do the same noise didnt think much of it untill i read this , left work monday evening thought "oh" its outa fuel switch it to reserve? as it made the normal sound ( and u can feel it through the bike) it has done since ive had it ? got home and noticed i hadn't done enough milage to need to switch to reserve, switched it back run around block and to a friends house fine? but it was there the faint rumble as if it was misfiring, but not enough to realy make a differance , if i open the bike up it seems fine but riding home through traffic low rev i can hear it , looked at the plugs they seem fine gapped them to make sure it was correct ? 0.8-0.9 NGK  what size is best ? and it still seems to be there , wife said im parranoid and hearing things mates say they cant hear it , but when its your own bike and you ride it everyday you know when something aint right ?

Yeah you can tell better than anyone else when its yours.

I have just finished doing the carby clean in the How To... section and been for a test ride - back to running well.

The carby on the No3 cyl. was really quite dirty.

I am going to take Dean up on his kind offer though (Top Bloke that he is lol) and learn how to balance them as well
