Hi,

I finally got the bike back together and ran into a huge issue.  I tried to start it for the first time.  New battery charged up, new plugs and the bike ran for about a second.  Then it quit.  So far through troubleshooting using the factory manual, I have noted that:

- main fuse was blown
- most instrument panel lights have blown
- tail lights blown
- Coils have infinite resistance (blown)
- Voltage regulator is shot
- the clutch switch is fried.

Before I started it up, I assumed that there was a neutral safety switch not knowing that I needed to pull the clutch in to start it.  So, currently, the motor turns over with the clutch switch disconnected.

I tested the continuity of the clutch switch wires and there was tone, I followed it to the starter relay so it seem that it had a short to begin with.

On a side note, the fuel pump relay didn't work before this happened.  I was using gravity to feed the carbs until I can get a replacement.

So I need help in determining the cause of this.  I don't want to throw parts at it hoping it will magically get solved.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi,

Talked to my mechanic finally, it looks like the regulator was faulty.  Worst news is that the CDI is fried.

Anyone have one for sale?

How much to 14305?

Thanks!

Mike

Hi,

So I opened up the CDI box and found that a part was loose in the case...

It's labled znr k220 -6n-, I have no idea what it is but I'm going to look for a new one and see if this fixes my woes...
