+2 rear sprocket..Where to buy?

CBRrider01 -> +2 rear sprocket..Where to buy? (5/21/2008 7:48:29 PM)

I want to keep my stock chain and front sprocket..I'm not trying to get real aggressive. I'm all stock down to the rear fender and run a 11.255....I'm trying to break into the 10's and keep it from high revs on the interstate...Was thinking either +1 or +2 in the rear..-1 in the front is to drastic for what I want...  Anyways where can I buy ONLY the rear sprocket to mesh with my stock chain??

Also I have a buddy who changed to a more aggessive sprocket and lost 2 tenths on a older cbr....Kind of like switching from an aggressive 3.73:1 gear to a more aggressive 4:11:1 gear on a mustang....How much is to much before you start losing more in the top end than you gain in the bottom? Is the stock gearing best or has anyone here PERSONALLY gained in the 1/4 from going to a more aggressive sprocket on an F4I...(I'd like to stay with F4I folks only since they have different transmission gear ratios)

You have asked alot of loaded questions.  So let me understand your intentions. You want to run your bike on the quarter mile dragstrips and get into the 10 second time frame.  According to MotorCycle magazine, the F4i all stock will run a high 10 all stock. Changing your sprockets will give you quicker low end acceleration and more than likely put you into a 10. I have changed my front and rear sprocket and a new chain. The stock teeth are 16 in the front and 46 in the rear. I did a 15 in the front and increased the low end speed and have lost some of my top end. It has enough torque to bring the front end up.  I left the rear sprocket at 16. If you only plan on riding at the drags, you can change your sprockets but don't plan on getting any decent gas mileage or go very fast on your top end if you do a -1 /+2. Leave it stock and learn your bike on your take offs and your shifting.  To where to purchase them there are a number of different sites you can go to. I got mine on Ebay, for around 150.

The magazine may claim 10's in the 1/4, but for the people here on this board I've yet to see a completely stock F4I run 10's and prove it with a copy of the timeslip...Not a "simulator", but a real run on a real strip....As far as practicing, I'm not an expert, just test-n-tune but I've gotten relatively consistent as far as racing a bike goes...Last time to the strip my best vs. worse times for the night where 60" .119 difference (1.758 vs. 1.877 and about 2 tenths difference on the 1/4 with best of 11.255 and worse of 11.489...Not good enough to trophy or bracket, but good enough to know I'm doing something right.

I don't think my questions are really loaded...I guess I should clarify and do my own math..
What I'm asking will a +2 in the rear give me a 2-3 tenths bump in the quarter? I know people who have gone to large (stunt sprocket) and have actually lost in the quarter due to losing more in the top than they gained in the bottom...This may have been due to the fact that they can't launch as hard, but I've also seen people in mustangs switch from a 3.73:1 to a 4.11:1 on a stock engine and also lose. 2 tenths...
As far as losing on my top end while cruising, I figure with a nearly 1:1 final transmission ratio and an approximately 5% difference in my final gearing butween a 46 and 48T rear sprocket I shouldn't be but 600-700 difference on the interstate. In town I can just go up one gear higher, so no big deal...Guess I answered my own question on the speed difference on the interstate..
Will this gear fit my current stock chain? and will +2 give me 2-3 tenths?

Just guessing here, maybe you can look into strapping down the front suspension to help weight x-fer and maybe even consistancy in addition to the gearing mods? Your times should fall when your consistancy comes up. Other than that maybe adjust the rear suspension so it does rebound so much, maybe that will help some. Good luck keep us posted.
