hey everyone, i'm in the market for a used 600cc sportbike just for the summer. i don't mind wrenching because i want to learn what i'm doing early. anyway i was on some local forums and somebody recommended this 01 f4

the asking price is about 3400, but i don't know the mileage yet. i guess i'm wondering what you'd pay for the bike and what it would cost for some new plastics if thats all thats wrong. thanks

first of all it depends on where you are at.. 3400 seems a little much if your in the states. It would be a reasonable price up here in Canada. You should really find out what happened to the plastics tho.. like how it went missing... was it dropped? Even if it was dropped usually the plastics are still salvagable. The bar end looks like it might be a little bit abused.. but see how many miles it has anyways

I'm in the states, in the chicago area. prices on ALL bikes seems to be jacked up from people i've been talking to. this is one of cheapest bikes i've found across the board, even looking at high mileage f3s and srads. i don't have any idea what a reasonable price is.

i found an r6 in my area for about 3 which so far is looking to be a solid bike, but i'm not a big fan. i'd really like an f4i.

I would pass if thats the price, plastics cost quite a bit depending on what you need. you could probably get the side fairings on ebay for around $400-500 in good shape.

if its and 01 its an F4i. I would look around, I just saw on craigslist where I am a 02F4i for $4K and it was in excellent shape
http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/690197916.html

just  quick search on there saw a few 00F4 for $4k and as low as $2700...to me if it needs fairings and/or any work $3400 is over priced.

I bought mine over 2 years ago for $2500, it needed a new tail and right side fairing and a back rim...got it all on ebay for under $500, and that was 2 years ago...

just look around, dont buy the first bike you see.
