So I broke a rib a couple weeks ago and this thing still hurts like a motha effer.  The doc said I can't do to much about it except wear the brace he gave me and tough it out for 4-6 weeks.

Anyone ever broke a rib?  I have fractured one before but this time it is actually the last 3/4 to an inch of the rib that is snapped off.  looks like it is just dangling there.  If anyone else has broken a rib, how long do I really have to put up with this?

Edit- I did not do this riding.  was horsing around with my younger brother and just fell funny.

i fractured two of them a few years back and it only hurt for a week or two.  It has been two weeks now and doesnt even feel like they are healing.  I can feel the end of the rib move when I twist certain ways.

Calcium magnesium in powdered form...don't let the vitamin store people change your mind. Twice a day for about a week-once in the morning and then again before you go to bed. If you have more...you'll get the shits, but after a week you can go to three a day.
Go see your chiro too, he'll put the ribs in place...as they float.

About three years ago I broke the two lower left ribs about 2 inches in(dirt bike jump gone wrong). For about three weeks I wore an ACE bandage pulled as tight as I could without hurting cause ever breath hurt without it. If I remember right 4 to 5 weeks the pain started to ease and by that time your so protective of that area it was almost natural not to twist or bend or breath full breaths until I just forgot about it..

Another thing that hurts like a SOB is a broken collar bone. I rebroke it two more times during the healing process and that was about 9 weeks of fun.

yep, I broke 5 ribs in my accident last year, they still feel funny but you get used to it.
Wait at least 6 weeks so that they dont get hurt again and then start doing weights. Its going to hust lake a bitch but it will give you your mobility back, and after feeling that pain, moving about normally is going to feel like nothing.

Broken ribs def suck...when I twisted with mine about my waist I could feel the sharp part like grab my rib meat, def weird pain and feeling...but I didn't have much trouble breathing

There really is nothing you can do about it...just gotta tough it out and eventually you "forget" about it like these guys are saying.

Sucks, bro, sorry to hear it.  Doobies and Bud Lights will help it feel better. lol

i definitely have the "weird" feeling.  when i move a certain way it kind of tingles/hurts.  anyway, got a few more weeks of this based off what everyone has told me.

Hey DOODOO- this is the first time the little bro has got the best of me.  he also has a few weeks.

I broke 3 ribs when I was 11 years old...my best friend was playing with a 25 handgun and shot me in the chest...the bullet bounced around and ended up in my arm(is still there) broke 3 ribs, punctured my lung, and I couldnt move my index finger for 2 months...and took almost 2 years before I could bend it fully...the bullet hit my nerves and I couldnt move/feel my arm for about 2 weeks...I was on alot of pain meds so I couldnt tell ya much about broken ribs....just felt pressure when I moved certain ways.

Ouch! Not much more I can say about that... dang. I always thought that 22's bounced more than a 25... but I honestly would have no real idea. Obviously, in your case... well... glad you're better!
