Alrighty, got it running! Went out to get plugs, but couldn't find any. left the drains open before I left...came back, closed 'em up, put a little more cleaner in the gas, and it started up, running a little rough though and if I give it any gas it dies and the throttle stop adjuster doesn't seem to change the idle, seems to be idling a little low right around 1k. Should I give it another drain or two? Right now its just idling in my driveway should I leave it running a while

while you have the plugs out do this to see if you need new plugs or may have a no spark condition,,,, pull all the plug wires off the plugs then pull one plug at a time and plug it into the boot on the plug wire of which it came off of, now touch the metal threads of the plug to the metal of the engine so that it is grounded,( do NOT touch the metal or you will get a mild shock,) now crank the bike over like you was trying to start it, you should see it spark, if so then do the next plug the same way and so forth till done, if all spark as they should and the bike still won't start i would say you need to tear down and clean the carbs, But if you get no spark on any of the plugs, recheck the spark plug gap and try again, if you can't get any spark off any plug then you have a electrical problem such as no voltage to the coils or no signal pulse from the pick up/hall effect switch or a faulty computer, also our since our bikes have a fuel pump you will need to turn the key on then wait 2 seconds then turn the key off, then back on several times (lets say 5-10 times) to get fuel to the carbs, once you have done this and you have verified you have good spark set your choke to full and crank it up, and hope it starts cause if don't you'll be pulling the carbs which take about 20 more minuets than what it does to change the air filter, so if you can change the filter and spark plugs you should be able to pull the carbs best of luck :)

at this point i would just let it idle and let the cleaner do some work and see if it smooths out or gets to where you can rev it, if not then i would look into pulling the carbs and cleaning them idle and rev problems are mostly due to the jets being clogged up which means you should only need to pull the bottom of each carb apart and clean the holes in the brass jets to make it run rite, if your letting it idle keep a eye on your temperature gauge and if it climbs 3/4 of the way up and the fan does not come i would shut it off and check the fan , the fan relay, and the switch in the upper left corner of the radiator. i only say this because the bike is new to you and i don't know if you have checked it to make sure it works like it should or not best of luck with it, glad to hear it at least starts now :)

Ok I didn't know that about the fuel pump and turning the key, that explains why sometimes when I drain after trying to start nothing really comes out. But every time I drain it seems to be clearer and less crap in there like its thinning out. When I came back to the bike earlier when I left it idling it had stalled, and has been hard to keep started since then, wants to go badly but dies when I let off the starter switch. After a few times of this and then draining, the battery became too low so now I'm recharging. Got it running a couple more times but was rough. Now that I know about the fuel pump I'll drain it out good, it sounds like it'll start if I do that with the key, just not getting enough gas. After all of the above I pulled the #1 plug to see if it was black again and it looked just as clean as when I put it in after cleaning and there were no more backfires. But when trying to rev I would get kind of a lag and chugging from the front end and I would have to let off, I'll check the other plugs. I will run the spark test too, was thinking of just replacing them tomorrow but will check the wires too

your still getting water out of it???? i don't know how it even ran to start with then, if your still getting water out of then I'll also suggest you get a flash light and look inside the tank for rust and loose stuff in the tank, you may have to pull the fuel valve and replace the screen thats on it and the fuel filter as well

The last time I drained it was pretty much clear, it started out like in the pic but would get lighter after each drain like there was less and less or thinning out. I don't remember if I said it already but when I drained the full tank of the 91 and cleaner along with whatever else was already in there, it was all brownish colored but mostly in the beginning when I first started draining it, then it was just gas. Yeah it was idling outside as I typed the message at the top of the page, but was stalled when I went out there though, got it idling a few times after that but then it went to barely not-starting, also lost the sweet spot for the idle adjustment knob- that has happened before though and I just tighten it all the way then let out to what feels around halfway and adjust it when it starts. I will check out the fuel tank and filter first thing tomorrow

Thanks for the advice man I took a flashlight in the tank and looked around and when looking closely I spotted some small piles of rust ships at the bottom..removed the tank and drained it, it came out almost completely orange/brown at the end. Now that the tank is off and could really look arond there's a ton of rust in there I guess thats the source of all these problems...spent all day yesterday scooping out piles of broken up rust, now I got a huge mound of what looks like dried muddy gravel. I removed the little grey canister in between the petcock and fuel pump, think its a filter, and nothing but orange/brown stuff came out of there. But when I took the hose off the "out" of the feul pump it was all clear gas so I think I'm ok on that side, its just this nasty rusted out tank. I thought about cleaning it out or bringing it somewhere to be boiled or something but I think I'm just going to look for a new tank in good condition, and while I'm waiting for that maybe I'll yank the carbs and give them a good cleaning.
