man.. my bike is a POS. the highbeam does not work, neither does the light on the indicator for the high beam. upon inspection of the bulb, it is not blown and neither is the corresponding fuse. suggestions? also, turn signals don't work but i think one of my splices from when i installed the flush mounts is making bad connection because it happened after i put the cowl back on.

Sounds like something in the clip-on is messed up, be it the switch(es) or wires.

i was having a fuse problem with the headlights because a wire had worn bare and every time it touched the frame the fuse for the headlights would blow. i took the cowl off and wrapped the worn spot with electrical tape for sheilding and then ptu the cowl back, making sure not to put the wire assembly in a spot where the problem would persist. both high and low beams worked immediately after but then my highbeams stopped stopped again as if the fuse had blown. The fuse for the headlights is for both high and low beam so i assumed that all the previously blown fuses had put stress on the highbeam lamp and just blown the bulb (side note: i drive with both high and low on at all times); however, the bulb is not blown. This leads me to believe it is not a faulty switch.. but i have no idea what it could be.

If the light in the gauge doesn't light up, that means that either the high beam switch is defective or you are having two coincidental wiring issues. I'd assume the former. If you want to be really sure, get at the wires by the switch and use a multimeter to see where the power cuts out, assuming that's your issue.

Multimeters are a wonderful tool. Find the wires in question, and test in different spots to see where it isn't getting power where it should.

great. i have an analog multi-meter from the 70s that my grandfodder gave me LOL. you are right though i should leave no stone unturned. first though, i'll check the wire that i shielded to make sure it wasn't in fact broken when i replaced the cowl. then i think i will check the continuity in the highbeam wire from where the headlight assembly plugs into the wiring harness. god damn do i hate having electrical problems they are the worst.

Yeah it can be a PITA tracking stuff down. At least it's narrowed down to high beam-related, so you've got a good idea of where to start / look. Good luck!
