Sprocket wear issue

Stockrocket -> Sprocket wear issue (5/30/2008 12:34:22 PM)

Sup, running a 520 +5 teeth rear sprocket and it seems to be wearing down fast as hell... Its the lightweight aluminum, same as my last one and the one that is on my bike now isnt even 1000 miles old and is lookin pretty wore out?  Anything that could be contributing to extra wear on the sprocket that I can look into and possibly fix? Any help would be sweet...

too tight of chain, too loose of chain and wheelies...

Not enough lube Id say. Aluminum does not like it when a harder metal rubs on as it is much softer. That in combo with too much torque on the wheel (+5 will add a lot) will chew up a sprocket.

So when I replace this one I should just go with the steal sprocket so I donthave to replace it after a couple months?

yes, steel will last alot longer.

just ask yourself if repalcing the alum. sprocket every couple months is worth the slight weight savings/added cost
