yes it does remove all the grey plastic from behind the rear fairing and about 1/3 going back underneath. You'll cut it at a 45 degree angle. The key hole gets mounted vertically behind the plate mount. The new base (main part of the eliminator kit that everything mounts onto) has a hole cut for your existing plate light to shine through once its mounting on top of the base inside of the rear fairing. Good kit all-in-all. Very expensive, but someone did their homework during design. You are paying for R and D.
2 things: 1 - buy a dremel and a sawzall. 2 - the turn signals are optional. Very nice as I have a integrated rear light.
