Also...in the manual it states starter motor removal is required for engine removal...but honestly i see no need whatsoever to take it off... All the wires are disconnected and its sitting on top of the tranny so what did you do? I hope you get this reply in the morning cuz one way or the other the motor is coming out tomorrow afternoon. Everything is in order for it to come out.

OK first im a full time mechanic and lucky me I have the use of a shop at my disposal. I had the front of my bike hung up on a car lift. I used my rear stand to support the swing arm and also used a pair of jack stands to help support the swing arm closer to the motor. Once I had the front end up I took out all the motor mount bolts. I put a floor jack under the oil pan and massaged the motor out of the frame. Actually the motor fell forward and came out kinda easy. You might want some one to help you with that part. I have also done this at home same way but instead of a car lift I used an engine hoist(cherry picker style) to pick up the front of the bike. The starter motor can stay in the motor. But you should remove it before you take off the Clutch Cover. The starter reducion gear will stick to it. and pop out. But your going to have to take all that apart any way when you split the case.

Well like i said i think my problem is just in the head and i hope i dont have to go farther than that...if i do im probably just going to replace the motor. It wont be cost effective for me to do the repair if its something worse than that. So unless the splitting of the cases your refering to is taking off the head...thestarter removal shouldnt be needed...but i guess ill find out sooner than later. I have a buddy coming over this afternoon to assist with the actual removal

Im not sure your if your going to have to remove the side covers to set the timing or not. I know there is a cover on the clutch cover to access the crank bolt. I do know one of the timing chain guide bolts is burried behind a lot of crap though,

It is a 17mm allen. One side is bigger than the other. (Swingarm pivot shaft). One side is the shaft and that is a 17 the other side is a 19 and it is basicly a nut. I left that in the frame.

32mm or 34mm, its a big ol socket. and you need to keep the motor together to get it off unless you have an impact gun. the motor will keep it from spinning.
