Hi everybody, I''m new to motorcycling. I decided that with the gas prices and the nice weather, it would be a good idea to get a motorcycle. My friend rides a Yamaha R1 and said that I should get a 1000 because if I got a 600 I wouldnt be able to keep up with him. I finally bought my first bike last week, a 08 cbr 1000rr. He wants to race me now. He said that his R1 will go 180. I was wondering what the top speed of the 1000rr is. Thanks

Oh, that an easy one. The top speed is..............................DEATH. Your friend is not really your friend to challenge you as a new rider to a race. Get your skills up, get some formal training, then see him on the track in a year. Too many young men die all the time trying to max out their bikes. BE SAFE. Man, you just dont understand. Its lecture time. I am a US Soldier. Today, I read that 3 Soldiers died from motorcycling between 5 and 8 June (last week). Each article ended the same way." The Soldier was traveling at a high rate of speed, and lost control in a curve. He was pronounced dead on the scene". Think of how your family would feel if something happened to you, cuz you just wanted the thrill of finding out the top speed. Be smart young man. I cant say it enough. I dont know if your "friend" told you to only ride within your limits, so I''ll tell you. In this forum, we have had member die, speeding on thier bike(rip Shane Stringer) Dont be next. You''ll find out in due time what that bike can due.

everyone is right, in this post and the other one you have going. for one i''d guess that if its an 08 you got last week its not even broken in yet. and two, you really will die on that thing if you dont respect it. there will be plenty of time to push its limits in the future, but you really want to make it that far first. to answer your question though, it is more than fast enough to keep up with any other bike in its class.

Dude if your new to biking and a cbr1k is your first bike- YOU MADE A MISTAKE. Its a good bike but you need a good rider to handle it... Just start slow and ride careful. Race in a few years. Trust me at 180mph if a car pulls out in front of you a mile away- you have bout 1.8 seconds to stop....

Nuff said. Unfortunately these are the questions that are asked a lot by people new to the sport (along with "how much horsepower does it have?"). Great info by all.

Dumb Questions + Dumb People = Dumb answers!! You''re bike will go 180 or so.... (now you know) B U T you don''t need to find out and your buddy should''nt be pushing you to find out how fast his R1 or your CBR really is.. Just remember that "Dead Guys" with motorcycles aren''t as COOL as "Guys who are ALIVE" with Motorcycles!!!

Ok, this post was created because I was curious what kind of people were actually on this forum. I do ride a liter bike, but I have been riding for 8 years and it is my 4th bike. I created a post saying 4 key things. That I was a new rider, had a friend that was giving me bad information, had just bought a bike that was well beyond my capability and was about to go try and race it. Much to my dismay, more then half of the replies that I recieved were calling me stupid or demeaning in some other sort of way. Instead of actually trying to offer good advice. One person actually told me to go and try to top the thing out!! To the people that saw a new rider about to make a big mistake and actually replied, trying to help me out and offer good advice, you are what this forum should be about. A group of people, with a common interest, trying to spread knowledge and help people out. Especially new rider''s trying to break into the sport. To the people that saw a fellow rider about to make a huge mistake, and all you could do was call him stupid, you are a disgrace to this forum and the sport in general. The rider that killed himself trying to make a top speed run, probably did so because someone on this post told him that would be a good thing to do, instead of trying to steer him in the right direction. This website should do something about those people on here that would rather make fun of their fellow rider''s then offer advice!

Bro, Why waste time and energy? At least you got feedback. You must be a kid, and that was your attempt to cover it up. Grow up. This is for big boys. This reminds me of that joey situation. See" High spped on a 954" thread
