Hi everybody, I''''m new to motorcycling. I decided that with the gas prices and the nice weather, it would be a good idea to get a motorcycle. My friend rides a Yamaha R1 and said that I should get a 1000 because if I got a 600 I wouldnt be able to keep up with him. I finally bought my first bike last week, a 08 cbr 1000rr. He wants to race me now. He said that his R1 will go 180. I was wondering what the top speed of the 1000rr is. Thanks

You got the latest and greatest liter bike for your first bike? You bought a liter bike just to save gas? Now you want to go 180MPH WOW!!!! You must have one hell of a gas bill if a new 08 cbr is going to save you money and a death wish. Stop letting other people make up your mind, especially when they have no experience themselves.

Remove that small motor and replace with a 454CI and a twin turbo. Run you tire pressure a bit high and nothing but octane boost in your tank. You should hit HOLY SH!T I''M DEAD in 1.4. wildcard

Ok, this post was created because I was curious what kind of people were actually on this forum. I do ride a liter bike, but I have been riding for 8 years and it is my 4th bike. I created a post saying 4 key things. That I was a new rider, had a friend that was giving me bad information, had just bought a bike that was well beyond my capability and was about to gotry and race it. Much to my dismay, more then half of the replies that I recieved were calling me stupid or demeaning in some other sort of way. Instead of actually trying to offer good advice. One person actually told me to go and try to top the thing out!! To the people that saw a new rider about to make a big mistake and actually replied, trying to help me out and offer good advice, you are what this forum should be about. A group of people, with a common interest, trying to spread knowledge and help people out. Especially new rider''s trying to break into the sport. To the people that saw a fellow rider about to make a huge mistake, and all you could do was call him stupid, you are a disgrace to this forum and the sport in general. The rider that killed himself trying to make a top speed run, probably did so because someone on this post told him that would be a good thing to do, instead of trying to steer him in the right direction. This website should do something about those people on here that would rather make fun of their fellow rider''s then offer advice!

With all due respect, any cursory search of this forum will yield plenty of threads full of motherly advice. Since you posed as an adult, with resources enough to get $10K+ together in order to purchase an ''08 CBR1K, then people have to assume that you are responsible for yourself. It''s a little silly to come here expecting people to beg you to not go top out your bike. Any half-wit knows that tripling the posted freeway speed limit has inherent danger. Since you posed as already owning the bike, if you didn''t already know the answer to your question was "pretty damn fast", then you have a stupidity that is far beyond being repaired by a few forum posts.
