Hey guys,   I have recently purchased my first 1000f.  It''s a 93 in excellent condition but my question is when I apply the brakes they seem to grab suddenly.  Once they "grab" I''m able to modulate the brakes just fine.  Just wondering if this is normal or if I have a problem?

Thanks

The brakes should be very smooth when they are OK. I would take out the pads and clean the pistons and calipers to start with. In case the fluid has not been replaced within the last two years it is time for that to. Replace the pads also if necessary.

Thanks R1000, I figured something wasn''t right.  I had a piston stick on a V-65 Sabre which caused the brake to drag constantly.  So I''ll probably try cleaning it and replace the fluid and see what happens.  BTW, at what thickness would you guys replace the pads?  The bike has a little over 20,000 miles on it and I have no service history so I''m not sure what has and hasn''t been done to it.

It depends, for commuting I may run them down to 2 mm or so. In case of a planned long trip or track day they need to be better than this.

If they are the factory pads, then often they have a groove down the face of them that helps determine the wear limit. Its not always there, but sometimes. 2mm is a good figure to go by though.
