Avon seem ok for commuting probably but if you are agressive or doing track days..........it''s worth an extra $50 to me to have the knowledge that the tire I''m on will keep from hitting the deck. People skimp on tires all the time and run them ragged.......they are the only thing keeping your azz off the pavement......spend the money on some decent tread.
For commuting almost anything will work ok. Conti''s Road Attack sucks under the power of a liter bike at the track FYI. LOL. My brother wanted the Sport Attack but they sent a road attack......there was not much attacking going on. The smarty he is brought his Corsa''s along and life was again good. They do seem to make a good street tire though.
