I''ll have to disagree......I like my 954 and love my F4i......But i rode a buddies new 08 100rr awhile back and man that thing is nasty. The weight feels like a 600, but the power is rediculous. Basically its a 600, until u give it throttle. He have up his Ducati 1098s for the 1000rr and it seems to have been the right choice. GRanted the looks of the 1000rr arent all that great. But considering the bike weighs less than my 954 and it has more HP. When u compare HP to weight ratio....Its like comparing apples to oranges.....IMO the 1000rr wins. But the 954 is great because every body and their momma doesnt have one at bike night, LoL.....=-)

Wow either you guys are too young looking or have crappy dealers. I can walk into any dealer around here, drop my license on their desk and get a test ride on anything i want.

it might be a state by state thing.  here in jersey, the first thing they say is,  no effin way,  insurance, etc...

me and my cousin went into the dealer considering the 07 leftovers that they have so many of.  and even with us thinking about buying 2 of them, they still werent willing to let us test one.

the 1000 is not lighter than the 954.
its claimed dry weight is 5lbs heavier, the 07 is 12lbs more than that.

unless i''m getting bad info here.

No way in hell the 954 is lighter.....=-)

Last year, Honda became the first manufacturer to pull out of the crazy “dry weight” claims among the OEMs. Since 2007, Honda has been providing a fuelled-up, ready-to-ride weight in its published specifications. And this apparently includes the tool kit and owner’s manual! Below is a rundown of some of the fully fueled weights of CBRs over the years.

1993 CBR900RR: 455 lbs 2003 CBR600RR: 445 lbs (2007 CBR600RR: 410 lbs) 2004 CBR1000RR: 469 lbs 2006 CBR1000RR: 452 lbs 2008 CBR1000RR: 435 lbs

You are trippin...  Look up the stats on the honda website... 954 is 370 dry.  The 1k is claimed by Honda at 425 DRY WT.   I have done every weight reduction measure to my 954 that can be done, and with a full tank of gas it weighs 379 lbs, and dynoed at 149.7 hp to the wheels. Now that is a good power to weight ratio.  Where you gettin your info?

he pulled that off of the wikipedia site.  but it doesnt list the 954, which is known for its small size, and weight.

i''m still going with the 954

Nah still no way in hell the 954 is lighter. Look at all the things that are made different, to reduce the weight. My 954 is an 03 model and the 1000rr is an 08. Your telling me that in 5yrs, they still havent made a bike thats lighter with my HP.......Dont see it happening......954 is old school technology and it just cant compare to the 08 1000RR......YES i own a 954, but i will still say it doesnt compare. I''ve had my share of riding the 1000RR and my 954 compares no way in hell to that 1000RR........954 is a good bike, but its still a past time bike. With the technology they have now days. Its a matter of time before the 954 is long gone and forgotten......=-)

i think there might be something wrong with your bike.

will1000rr on this forum has an 08, so do a few others that we ride with.  they cant pull away from me in straights, and they''re not beating me in corners.  i dunno.  spec wise you''re mistaken, but if your bike isnt holding up next to these newer ones, there''s something wrong with it.

+1  I couldnt feel a difference in the two bikes.  My buddy and I traded back and forth on a 4 hour ride. He felt that the 954 was better at sticking the corners, and the power was bout even. We raced around all day and we were side by side every time. Something MUST be wrong with your bike if the 1k is leaving you... Dont just throw specs out there and insist that they are right.  DO YOUR RESEARCH !!!!!   Technology has improved but street legal regulations have not. New ideas dont mean abetter product. Honda dropped the ball when they came out with the first 1k.  Nothing has really changed.  Still,  would you pay 11,500 for a new 1k- or 7,000 for a bike that can match the same performance levels..

Actually Respect the 954 is lighter then the 08 stock for stock by about 5lbs. I have done a few weight reductions and side by side on the scale at the local track here my 954 was 9 lbs lighter then my buddies stock 08. We had both filled up about 20 miles earler for racing so there could be a small differance in fuel capacity, but not 9 lbs worth. Also according to all the reading i have done the 54 was and still is the lightest liter bike ever made. I had actually had a good arguement about it in the 1krr forum here a few months back.

the 954 will never be 4gotten. i''d love for them to bring em back out with the same body and everything with more power just so i could have a new one. to me, its the best looking sport bike so far and one of the best sportbikes period

styling in my opinion isnt what should sway you to a bike.

i rode my friends R1 and i''m not really a fan of it.
