Please help me on this one!! Ok, here it goes. I have a 1998 900rr that the motor blew on. So i picked up a 1993 motor and it fit and runs great. THE PROBLEM!! the 98 900rr had a speedo sensor on the motor and my 93 motor that I no winstalled doesnt. The 93 motor that is in  uses the front wheel speedo sensor and cable. WHAT DO I DO?? Is there a conversion?? Do i get the  front wheel speedo sensor, the cable, and a gauge cluster from a 1993 900rr, IF SO then will the rest of the gauges works Please help. I am new to this forum. You can email me at mattyggolfguru@yahoo.com or even call me at 860-608-3243. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Thanks so much guys!!!

Oh man...I''''m sorry, but I think you are effed. If it were me, I would drop that 893cc and just wait for a good 98-99 motor to come along. If that is not an option, I would try getting a speed sensor and a drive sprocket cover from 95-97, and see if the speed sensor wiring could be spliced into your 98-99 wire harness.

The front sprocket cover for 95-97 (should fit right onto the 93-94 motor) has a notch in it where the speed sensor bolts onto the sprocket bolt, but the 93-94 cover does not (neither does 98-99).

The thing is, almost nothing carried over from 93-97 to 98-99. There''''s a good chance the gauge cluster will have no ****ing clue what you''''re trying to tell it by hooking up a 95-97 speed sensor, but it may work if you have a better understanding of electrical components than I do (which isn''''t to say a lot).

I recommend you don''''t try a 93-94 gauge cluster...there''''s nowhere to plug in your newer harness, and you would have to search for a 93-94 front wheel and cable. It''''s not worth it.

The absolute easiest thing to do, would be to get a 98-99 motor. I see 900RR engines about every other week on ebay.

Here, I just saw this tonight:

97 sprocket cover and speed sensor

If your 93 motor can be fitted with the 96/97 front sprocket cover as what Spirit said complete with the speed sensor, you are lucky. The speed sensor for the 96/97 and 98/99 is the same anyway.

BTW you should had waited for a 98/99 motor.

I''ve got a ''94 (same engine as ''93) and I''ve heard that you can change the stator cover for a ''95-''97 to get the speedo sensor to work, in that case you''ll also need the guage cluster from a ''95-''97. Other option, no engine work option, is to get the front wheel off a ''93-''94, speedo gear, speedo cable, and guage cluster for the same years and change all that out. I just got my standard system hooked up, took awhile to find the right front wheel, then had to put new bearings in it cause the old ones we''re seized up. I rode all last season just not knowing how fast I was going, just kept up with the flow of traffic. I want to swap mine for the F4i guage cluster, but it involves the new stator cover, F4i guages, and since I finally got mine hooked up and working I''ll hold off on that for awhile...
