the new reg/rec arrived this morning and I installed it within 30 minutes. Didn''t see much change on the multimeter, but when I tested the old one it wasn''t giving the right readings so I think it was bad anywayz. So I proceeded to inspect the wires running from the stator to the reg/rec and discovered that they had melted the plastic coating off and we''re actually touching a bit. As soon as I separated them the multimeter started showing improved voltage readings, imagine that! so the connector that bridges the 3 yellow wires was all melted, I just cut it out and wired them directly together, runs great! But the wires still get really hot, should I replace the whole wire set going from the stator to the reg/rec? can you even buy just this section of the wire harness? Thanks!

Just take the 3 yellow wires out of your harness. They just go from the stator straight to the reg. You can undo that part of the harness and replace those. Then retape it and it will look like new. Make sure you solder the connections so they work better.
