Hi,
I just picked up my new 08 candy red cbr 1000rr yesterday and granted, it was a hot day, but the bike was running at 210 degrees before I even went 10 miles.  I took a peek at the fluid tank under the seat and it was closer to low then full.  Other than taking it back to the dealership and having them put the proper amount of coolant in, is there anything else that would make the temp so high?  I had a 99'' 929 that ran hot too, so am wondering if these bike also just run hot.  If that is so, what do you all do to keep your right leg from cooking?

If its a hot day expect the temp to be higher. Good idea to add coolant but typically these machines run hot especially on hot, middle of the day and of course if your running in traffic.  At the start this bike starts to warm up pretty quick near 200 so for me don''t see a big problem yet. At 250 temp then ur in trouble.

My 06 will get up to 230-235 ever since it was new in traffic. Midday florida weather

If I am in the city, I will usually see it at 225-230. Same with my friends ''06. We both have over 15,000 miles on our bikes and not a single problem with either one.

I have an 06 1k and it was running hot here in jacksonville with the traffic being busy (good ol marine corps town you know)  i replaced my coolant with engine ice and it is running about 230 at most on a really hot day....was running around 240-242.  hope it helps

Thanks for the info.  It must have been the hottest day of the year here in Norcal today.  I choose to ride in the dusk and dawn hours when it is smoking like this.  I appreciate all the insite on the heat issue.  I think I am going to buy a few "ov gloves" to sew into my leathers on my right leg to stave off the heat from this engine/exhaust.

Does swaping out the exhaust help with the heat issue?  If it is significant, I will definately save up for a new exhaust system.

yeah, temp is normal. Also, keep in mind on the coolant. When the bike is running and fully warmed up, the coolant tank will be a little less than when the bike is cooled off. When the bike is hot, it pulls more coolant into the system, when it cools, it returns it to the resivior bottle. As long as your between the high and low marks, I wouldnt worry about it.

Hi,
Following replacement of the water pump on my ''06, it was running hotter than ever.  The dealership obviously did not take the time to purge the cooling system.
I did the following and it made a world of difference.
Here is what you could do to make sure there is no air in your system, it is easy and might help.
When your bike is COLD (VERY IMPORTANT!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR RADIATOR CAP OFF WHILE THE ENGINE IS STILL HOT!!!):
1 - Use a rear stand or ask one of your buddys to sit on your bike so it stands straight.
2 - take the cap off your radiator
3 - open the coolant reservoir (tank)
4 - start your bike and let it run until the engine reaches its normal operating temperature.  When the coolant gets hot, it will ''''swell'''' and start to slowly spill out of the rad.  At that time, put the radiator cap back on and tight properly.
5 - Make sure to wipe the coolant that leaked out of the rad.
6 - Look at the coolant tank and add new coolant if necessary.
7 - Close the coolant tank.
8 - Put the fairings back on an enjoy the bike!!
If there was air in your system, you should see an improvement in the running temperature.

It''s over 100F here in LA. My 08 1k is running between 190-225. Before it got sooo hot it was runing at 178-190, so I''m guessing like anything else, when the ambient temp is up so is the bikes temp. Makes sense to me.
