I know I seen somewhere on this site that someone had this same rattle.
There is a rattle coming from the clutch area that disappears as soon as the clutch lever is pulled.
What''s the fix and what''s it going to cost me?

Uncle,

One thing to think about that can cause what some believe to be clutch rattle and that is when the carbs need to be sync. If everything seems to work with your clutch this is another area to look at as well.

The early model Honda CBX clutch basket had rubbers instead of the springs and will rattle sounds like it going to come apart. Then add in the 6 carbs out of sync and they really sound like the clutch wants to come thru the side cover, and the same condition pull in the clutch lever and all goes away or bring up the RPM to around 1500 and the rattle is gone. You here it just at idle and in neutral.

Just room for though as it''s not always the clutch.

Good luck let us know what you find out.

i had the same thing on my 94. on tick over it rattled like holy hell. pull the lever it goes away. rev it up a couple of hundred revs it goes away. i found it was the main springs in the basket were shot. i replaced the whole thing, basket, plates, cover, the lot. new you are looking at over $600 for the complete unit. a guy i bought mine off on eBay sold it for me for $150. barnett plates included. worth looking there. after checking the 2 unitsside by side it was obvious to see the difference in the springs. they go weak after a while or after heavey riding on the clutch, ie weelies and stuff like that.

Hi there,

Now that''s what I wanted to know when I started my own post about this problem a couple of weeks ago ... noone seemed to know back then ...
I''m quite happy to know I''d just have to change the springs to stop this clutch rattling.
Thanks Uncle for the post and thanks SAS for the solution !

J
