It''s almost time for new tires it came to me with the rear squared off a little and cupping on the front. I''m thinking of trying the Pilot Road 2 since I liked the 2CT on my last bike. The rear tire is a 170. Any thought on 170 vs 180?

Don''''t know exactly what your model you have. The late models can run a 190 I am running in the Continental Road attacks and now have approximately 1300 miles on it. It handles better than anything I have previously used including the Michelin just one man''''s opinion

Solo''s on a 93 model, so the clearance isn''t an issue.
We''ve had this debate before, and I''d still go to 180 maximum on the rear, and the Michelin Road 2 does a good job for me - as good as the Bridgestone BT020, maybe better.
Others, like HC (Hi Gunny) have successfully gone to the 190, but the general consensus is it affects the handling negatively when you go that wide.

I guess it''s just hard to see the profile from that angle. (shrug) I like the RoadAttack 190 on my ZX-14, but that''s a 6" rim.

I have switched form the 170 to the 180 and so far I like the 180.
Hard to get a good comparison due to this crapy weather we have here.  Every day rain, rain all this week again and next week. I have only ridden in rain this year. I can’t find a dry patch of asphalt to test the new tires on.  I do notice that I can lean the bike further in wet conditions now but, I don’t know if it is because the tires are new.

I also use Michelin Pilot Road 2 on my rear right now, but I’m sticking to a 170. I think the bike gets a bit heavier in the steering, and I like to get the old girl as light on her toes as possible. She is heavy enough as she comes J

I was wondering if the wider tire would slow steering much. Maybe I''ll just go with whatever''s in stock and see how it goes

Track? I''m signed up for a Buell track day/demo at Sears Point in November and I plan on taking the CBR. I haven''t pushed the bike really hard yet but I''m getting used to the linked brakes. I read the posts on de-linking before I got the bike, just in case I can''t take the nose dive on rear braking.

I use a 170 just make the handling a bit lighter, I don''t ride hard enough to warent that fraction more grip a 180 provides.

I''m in the 180/55 camp.  Yes, it does slow the steering , but it eliminates the annoying slight head shake at 45-55 mph.

I''m in Australia and I use the Michelin 180/55 sports.  Great tyre - wehave great weather and good roads - the 180 is beautiful - lean the cane as far as your knee will allow.

Bassman, I developed that head shake after I installed a GIVI bag system. Even with just the top bag I get the shake from 45-55. You are correct about the 180; it takes most of it away.

Unlike others, I don’t notice heavier steering with the 180, that may be due to the fact that I was coming off of a worn front tire also. I still have not fully tested the new 180 out in normal ridding conditions as it has been raining here for two months. The long range forecast is 7 more days of rain. There were a couple of days that were very hot after some rain where the roads were damp. On those days I could get a great bit of lean angle. The bike feels more stable with the 180 than it did with the 170. I still slide in turns and will stay with the 180.
