Hi, I''m about to buy my first CBR 1000F this summer. I want a cheap bike with big potential to last for several years, both for short rides and mid touring rides. This one seem to be the right model for me! I''ve just had Suzuki and Kawasaki before, and people say Honda is of better quality, right through.

But, I have not got involved in the details about each years model and therefore I would like advices from you guys. Right now for example, I can choose from one 1995 with 4000km on the meter, and one 1997 with (probably touring) 7000km. Of course, there is a lot more details to be considered for each before a deal, but if I could just get some comments already here I would be more than happy!

Bear in mind that the speedo only goes to 100''000, so 4,000 could be 104,000.
Look for oil leaks and noisy Alternator chain.
there will be other things to look for, but if I was to buy again..

No difference between 95 and 97 except for color schemes.

Thanks for the tip about speedo. However, in Scandinavia where I live we have long winters which means (unfortunately) short biking seasons... 6-7 months. Because of this, "our bikes" does not very often do "speedo overtaking". Considering this, I think the risk is minimal.

I guess there is a zero missing in the figures above, right? In case the 95 has 30 000 less km''s on the odo, and probably is cheaper to, it will be the better buy since there are no differnces between these years,

Welcome to the Forum !
These bikes have been known to run over 200 000 kilo''s without a rebuild, so these two bikes you are considering aren''t even run in yet[:)] Mine is a 90 model and has 67000 K''s up.
I wish I could find one with such low K''s on the clock- check to be sure the bike wasn''t imported from somewhere else ......speedo wise[8|]

I would go for low milage before age anytime. But again it depends on how the generel state the bikes is in.

+1 Noe - my 1990 model had 17000 K''s on it after 14 years - owner was/is a friend.
Would have paid more than I did, just because of the condition.

Thanks guys for your advices! Two days ago I bought a -96 CBR 1000F (black and grey) with 41000km mileage. Like Noe/R1000''s advice, I were concerned about low mileage. The chain hasn''''t been taken care of enough, but otherwise the condition is very good as far as I can judge!

Wow, what a bike! Heavy as ****, but a dream to ride on. Suits me perfectly as I''m a short person.
Have not experienced the same "kick" on any other bike on 3:rd gear from ~90km/h... the bike just bolt away. *ouh* [sm=wootwoot.gif]

Buying a setup of bags and the dream of a EU touring is a bit closer.

Nice buy Marson,  you''re sure to enjoy your new mount for many years to come. I picked up my second hand ''93 three years ago with 22k miles on the clock, bone stock, and in excellent condition for $1800US (thanks Craigslist!). It was a great buy and I have not regretted it once. The bike is heavy, as you''ve already noted, but it still handles pretty well and it is rock solid stable on the freeway at speed. Great bike for a mature (43yrs) post crotch rocket guy like me, plus it provides some room to move around a bit, which at 6''4" is a great benefit. They are solid bikes and work well.
I hope you really enjoy yours!
