hello,
i have a 79 cbx ss. that has been sitting for 12 years. 3 years ago i rebuilt all six carbs with genuine honda carb kits, and never put fuel in then until today. I connected a gas can staight to the fuel line, and filled the carbs. the fuel started running out the float bowl drain tube. I checked all the float bowl drain screws they were all tight. Then i opened one at a time to see if fuel would run out, and then shut them off again. all worked like they were suppose to. I added more fuel from the can, and still the same result.
The bike will start and run fine with what little gas is in the carbs.

It sounds like your floats are not adjusted properly. Or, they are stuck open. You may need to tear into them and ajust the floats to the correct level. Also, make sure your needle and seats are in good condition. check closely at the connection for the needle to the float.. this is an area that many people hook them together wrong and the floats won''''t opperate correctly.

also on some model carbs in the float bowl itself there is a long skinny brass tube this is to let fuel out when the float gets stuck look at this tube real good for cracks if it has a crack it will leak all the time even if the float needle is working properly. if it is cracked I have fixed them by lightly sanding it to clean it an solder it.

Thanks for the replies.
I removed all the float bowl drain lines and tapped on each float bowl. then added fuel. No more problems. no fuel leaking. I then started the engine ran it for a few minutes, and no problems. I lucked out.
