I had a really bad one about a month ago, I gunned it coming out of a sharp right turn and right when i hit the throttle my back tire went over a seem in the road and i fish tail to what felt like 90 degrees from strait, i closed the throttle and the bike snaped back and i almost high sided (i think my back tire might have left the ground) i got thrown forward and wobbled back and forth a few times before straitening up. Not sure how i didn''t eat pavement, I pretty much clung to the bars and prayed. no damper either. then about too weeks ago we were doing laps around a loop that was going to be a housing development but they hadn''t done anything except the roads at this point. i was in back and we took a turn going about 80, then I passed my friends and took the courner going a good bit faster, I scraped pegs and still didn''t make the turn. i ran my self off the road going 80+ and had to hold on through 3 small ditches over about a 150 yards, I couldnt brake at all because it would get squily, it shook the plastic off the bike and smashes my license plate up against my undertail. sig picture below is the from the same development.

Damn "GVille" that''s crazy, glad your okay man. I used to live in New Port Richey down there in FL a couple years ago and I was out riding with some dude one night on my first bike and we were chillin for a while and later started down this nice road hittin corners. I didn''t realize I had gotten a nail in my rear tire somewhere along that ride and went into the corner with low tire pressure and went through a ditch, a lawn, a driveway in between two cars and back onto some side street. HAHA It was scary as hell but somehow held on. I''ve gotta sign on at home so I can see those videos, at work youtube is blocked.....sucks.

its called a tank slapper cause you the slap the damn tank with your body and start the wobble wheel. Whatever you wanna call it. Another question for you guys. I have an 06 rr and been riding for about a year, havent had any bad wobble wheels. Is a steering damper worth the money and would you recommend me buying one?

Just relax as much as possible, putting tension on the handle bars and all that will make it worse, and I''m going to give it a little gas or none at all, def. not trying to hit the brakes.

I think it really depends on how you ride, if you do alot of wheels or ride really hard then it would be a good investment. I haven''t got one because they are expensive (I know, if i can afford a bike i should be able to afford parts for it and nice gear, but i am still in college and rent comes first.) Do the new 600s come with dampers stock? or is that just the 08 1krr?

camerosupersport guy, the reason you would gas it on the new bikes (07 and 08) is cuz they have HESD, or honda electronic stearing dampners, which tighten as you increase speed. so, therefor you would be stabilizing your front end AND making it lighter and possibly a little off the pavement in order to take yourself outta the slap. HESD is the best things in the world for bikes, and i wish my biek was a year newer so i could have one. good equipment, and a whole lot safer.

You would still be making the front lighter taking off some of the load (I would think) with bikes prior to the HESD years. Soon as I find a good deal a Scotts is going on my 06.

The new 600rr''s do come with the electronic steering damper. I ridden bikes with one and without one. The times my HESD has come into play is when I hit a piece of gravel/sand/pot holes that upsets my front end or when I had an accidental power wheelie and set it down incorrectly. Downfall to the steering damper is that you do notice less feedback on the road you''re traveling. I do believe they are worth their money if you ride hard or stunt.

mechanical dampners are worth the money if you track, stunt, or want to look cool. some beginners get them to not get tanks slaps but if you know how to ride you dont need one. honda started the HESD cuz thats just a little piece of mysterious wonder and it, among other things, puts cbr''s above all other bikes on the market. safer, helpful, and just plain a good idea. the thing is that mechanical dampners dont work this way. a scotts or gpr or whatever dampner is set to a premade setting of tightness. so, if you are going really fast on a straight away, your gonna put it tight.... but if you go into a turn your gonna have trouble wiht the steering being so tight.... you either have to power thro that or quickly loosen up the dampner. THATs where the HESD cant be beat
