Amsoil is a damn good oil and filter to use in your bike. I'm a dealer for AMS but dont let that information deter you or cause you to think that I am Biased in any way. I became an independant dealer for AMS so that I could buy AMS products at whole sale prices and to generate some extra income. Using Amsoil full synthetic oil and Amsoil filter allows me to only have to change my oil once a year or every 25,000 miles. Yes thats no bullshit. I typed it. Every 25,000 miles. Now dont get me wrong I still change my oil every year but only once and it costs me half of what it could cost me using other oils. AMS is an industry leader based out of Superior WI. They have air filters too. I'm not going to tell you its the best but I did a lot of research before I switched and I am glad that I did. I suggest checking it out for yourself.

i think the 25k mark is for when the oil is completely broken down. doesn't mean its good for an engine. let alone a our high performance engines.

Hey:

I have used Bel-ray full synth superbike exs 10w50, Maxima maxum4 extra 15w50 , Klotz motocycle techniplate 15w50,

Motul synth racing15w50, Shell synth rotella 15w40, Elf synth mx4t, Royal Purple max cycle 20w50, Amsoil 20w50vt, Castrol r4 5w40,

Repsol mr4t 10w50, and Mobil 1 mx4t 10w40 or vtwin 20w50. and have had good success with all. 1 bike has 147,000 miles on it and

has used all the oils above . I used Kendal GT50 for break in then started with Castrol and went form there, none of these oils made

the clutch slip or caused any problems and with the exception of the Shell rotella oil, all are made for motorcycles only and only

the Kendal GT50 was not a full Synthetic oil and was used for the first few thousand miles. I like the Bel-ray, Klotz, Maxima and Mobil 1

all about the same, and buy them based on price and availability.

Yep, there's a lot of good oils out there to choose from - and the other issue that seems to come up a lot is the debate over how often to change the oil -

Remember that all the factors that break down oil are exaggerated in our engines - The oil doesn't just lube the pistons and bearings - the same oil in that crankcase is also asked to keep the transmission lubricated. Even worse, it bathes the clutch, where it gets subjected to horrendous heat and friction. And to add insult to injury, the same oil bathes the stator, where it encounters more tremendous heat ( if you doubt that, warm up the engine and try placing your hand on the stator cover and compare it to the right side of the engine - that stator cooks the heck out of the oil). The clutch also introduces particles, or dust, from the wearing plates.

All this makes me feel like changing the oil a bit more often, rather than push the envelope over a few dollars. And the particles from the tranny and especially the clutch inspires me to yank that filter with every change ( I say that because I hear some guys talk about changing the filter every other oil change).

In the end, it's still up to the individual, and solid proof one way or the other is tough to compile. But my oil comes out every 3K, and so does the filter.
