What size is the new sprocket?  520?  525?

If it''s 525, you''re fine.  If it''s anything else, you need a new chain and a new front sprocket of the same size.

+1 and you really, really need to change all 3 out as a set.

It will work, but if you have any significant mileage on the front and chain, I would suggest changing out everything at once.  Why were you trying to just change out the rear anyway?

Interesting.  Anyway, return that sprocket and get an RK chain and sprocket kit.  It''s going to cost less and it''s easier to install since you get the correct chain length.
