i plan on going to the track soon and i have wrecked street plastics. i figure i will ues these insted of new ones. i was thinking about leaving the headlights out so if i go down they cant break. are these needed to mount the upper fairing? if not i will need to tape over the holes so air does no go in. wil this work? thanks

No, and probably yes, but you can find a purpose-made peice that will cover up the headlight hole, probably (number plate for street fairings).

which bike is it? some bikes do mount the upper fairing by using the headlights. they sell a race fairing stay bracket that elimates this.

o sorry 05 600rr. i dont think any bolts were going through it when i took the upper fairing off but i do not know if any of the parts around it that were used to bolt on to the bike itself were attached to the headligt.
