If you read what I have posted I never said anything about it binding and I also said that in reality u are making the stock CCTL into a manual tensioner. Also if u read I said "HAND TIGHTEN ONLY". If some1 was to over tighten it it would do damage to more then the CCTL. If you were to do the bolt thing and did go a little to tight you would hear a whinning noise, almost like the sound of a turbo. Read my posts and you will see why it rattles. It''s not that it''s binding or the spring is week its because the pin that applies tension to the cam chain doesn''t move much at all and the vibration from the moving parts in your motor, etc eventually will wear down a spot on the pin, thus making it sloppy which would make it vibrate and and rattle. By inserting the longer bolt as you said you are just applying a bit more pressure to the pin so there is no room for it to rattle around. You are right in saying it could do damage but only if you over tighten the bolt that is why I said "HAND TIGHTEN" bolt then tighten the nut against the CCTL housing  to lock the bolt in place. Eventually I would think you would have to replace the CCTL with a stock 1 or a manual tensioner, but from my experiance and from what i''ve been told once u do this fix u might not have to adjust it for a very long time if at all. I know there is alot of debate about this subject so as I tell people if your not sure then don''t do it, take it to a shop and have a new CCTL installed. All I was doing was just throwing out there what I and some friends have done to fix this problem and it''s worked for all of us.

Not upset at all. Ive been researching this awhile myself and think we both agree on the same thing. Was just stumped because didn''t know where u were getting the binding from and any1 that would tighten it so much to push pin thru the CCTL shouldn''t be working on thier own bike, lol. were cool both are trying ti get to bottom of the same issue

yea it''s pretty lame.

first the tip rattles, flare the pin and get rid of it, then the shaft wears against the cctl and starts to make noise too, can fix that so then gotta do the manual/bolt method, which essentially shuts the vibrating shaft up by putting more tension on the shaft.
