I had what I thought was a bad rod bearing due to low oil pressure. Pulled the engine out of the bike, split the case.......$#!t.

Turns out, whoever did the shift forks in this bike for the previous owner must have either used the wrong bearings when putting it back togeather, or they put something togeather wrong. The rod bearings were all fine, but the main bearings have all spun. The case is grooved pretty badly, as is the crank. I don''t think the case is salvageable. Even if I turn the crank and put new bearings in, the bearigs could warp because they are sitting on big grooves in the case.

Anyone know of a good 929 or 954 engine?

Hell, at this point, I may have to take a huge loss and part the bike.

man that sucks. Only thing I can suggest is watch ebay.

Depending on how badly the case is, you might beable to line bore it. They reassembly the case and bore the main journals bigger. I''m not sure how much larger they can go. I think .020" is about the max they will go. So, if your grooves are deeper .010" per side, your probably out of luck. with the time and money to fix that one, you might just as well buy a used engine. the good news, you can recover some of your money by parting out your bad engine. Stator, cylinder head, clutch basket, throttle bodies.... you can probably get an engine for under a grand.. then turn around sell off your old engine parts and probably make close to half of it back.

Another note to check into. I''m not 100 percent sure the 954 engine will drop into your 929 frame. I thought there was a rear engine swing arm mount difference between them.
