Hey everyone. So I''m not yet a Rookie Rider.. but soon to be.

I plan on getting my Motorcycle License soon.

Don''t even have a bike yet.. But I know what kind I want.

Take a guess? a Honda CBR!!

I wouldnt mind a stock CBR600RR.. but other friends/riders tell me to just skip all the kiddy stuff and get a 1000cc because by the time I learn on the 600.. and waste a boat load of money in trying to make it faster, I could just save myself the time and money and get the 1000cc.

learning on a 1000 vs. 600 is still learning to ride a bike either way. just have to be more cautious. but to be honest.. Im not looking for speed or stunt riding. just want a bike.

so I just want to gain some more knowledge through these forums, and hopefully you guys accept me as the NEW GUY. ;]

Your buddies are morons.  An F2 stock 600 is more than any of them could handle.  Don''t know what sort of experience you have on bikes but my suggestion is to start on a beater 500 (Kawi has a decent 500) and then move on to the bigger cc''s as your skills increase.

+1 i agree.. a 600cc bike is more than enough for you to learn on and continue to ride. i work at motorcycle dealership and see it all the time when people think that having a 1000cc bike is the bike they want.. it''s almost like the "who''s got the bigger ****" competition.. people get thrown off by the bigger number but in all honesty, a 600cc bike is plenty. i''ve been riding for 10+ yrs now and i''ve ridden honda 600''s the whole time. anyways, good luck to you on your search and i hope you find the right bike for you.

For learning, I say get an older 600. Like and F2 or F3. Or like everyone else says, get a 500. Shit is scary enough to learn without adding another element to the mix. It doesn''t take much to lose control of your ride, but having an overpowered machine relative to your experience or lack there of will just worsen your odds of survival 10 fold.

besides the road rash, he also ended up with about a thousand dollars worth of damage to his ride. Get the experience then upgrade. It may save your life...and by ALL means...take the MSF before putting your butt in the saddle.

Couldn''t have said it better myself...A stock CBR 600 can run a 13 second quarter mile and get to a hundred in under 10 seconds...that''s not fast enough for you?!?

no offense but your friends are fvcking stupid. Only fools start on liter bikes, and a close 2nd is starting out on a RR of any size. If you truely want to learn to ride n ride well, get a ninja 250 n concentrate on learning to ride. Not apeasing your friends n their egos or even your ego. You will have tyme for that all in good tyme.

And no matter what bike you get, buy gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, n pants) b4 you hit the streets.

You know who''s the bigger moron in that video?  His friend, who stands in front of the bike!  If that was me, I woulda had a loud speaker, and yelled out instructions to "john" from a mile away.  Loved the way he got on though.
