So I changed my stock gearing from the usual 16-43 to 14-47 thinking that the 954 would gain a lot of acceleration. Turns out that I may have over geared it and now the acceleration sucks and I have completely lost my top end speed. I have heard that the best gearing ratio is to have a 3.00. Right now I am sitting on a 3.35 ratio. I would like to know if I could keep the 14 front and just get a 42 rear? 14-42. This configuration would make the gear ratio 3.00 but it is not the popular 15-45 setup. Will it work and function the same way based on the fact that it will still have the same ratio? Thanks for reading this and I appreciate any help I can get.

I would make the change in the front either to a 15 or back to 16 and leave the rear. For one cost, a front is 25 bucks compared to 80 or so for a rear. 2nd going -2 in the front is pretty hard on the output shaft and the chain because its making such a severe turn in the front.

Sweet, Thanks I think I would just roll with the 16t front and 47t reat and the ratio would be a little under 3. It is something like 2.93 and some change. Again thanks and you are always have useful insight.
