They're pretty much all the same except for the addition of the banana seat in 2004 & the different color choices Don't ask me why, but I've read everywhere that the 2001 F4i was the fastest of the bunch It was the first year for the fuel injection and then they were "detuned" for the following years I don't really think there is anyway to confirm it or prove it....it's just what I've heard & read

Well wait actually.... I read that they detuned the bike when the RR came out so they could separate them more for marketing (power wise) instead of selling the same motor in a different shell Cuz the RR is supposed to be the racey version & fast

So on that clip of that guy topping out his F4i, was he tightening his steering damper before taking off? If so, for top end speed, is that a big safety precaution?

ORIGINAL: chaos321 The most I've seen on my 2001 is 173. No matter how many times I try, I can't seem to get past that. Run out of road, traffic, any thing to slow me down. wow.. 173... is that possible?? wat mods do u have? I have a 99F4 with a complete F4i upgrade. Erion full exhaust, K&N filter, PCIIIr, custom map, 520 chain and sprocket, cams degreed. I indicated 173mph all of the times I ran it up. Now they say the speedo's are off by usually 10%, if you figure it in, it is 17mph off which would put actual speed at 156mph. Which is right where it should be with optimum conditions. Yes, high speed passes are dangerous, but go preach to someone else. I don't ride all these bikes according to what some moron thinks is safe. I ride it on the edge, if you don't like the edge, don't go there! By the way. I'm not bitching at the guy I am quoting, I was using his quote to let him know what engine mods I have.

You can get some serious high speed wobble when going that fast. A little rise in the road will really hoist the front end, coming back down at speeds like that will get your front shaking something fierce.

154 indicated. I was going down a slight incline, which certainly helped. This of course, was in a closed-course, sanctioned event... ;-)

So let me get this straight, they say your accuracy is off 10% of your actual speed. How do you tune that?

ORIGINAL: smokeyF4i So let me get this straight, they say your accuracy is off 10% of your actual speed. How do you tune that? there's an electronic device called "speedo healer". your speed is determined via the vss (vehicle speed sensor) which ends up being represented as a voltage. the speedo healer is basically an adjustable resistor (rheostat). it has some extra circuitry in the case where it would have to actually INCREASE the voltage, so it requires power, and is more complicated than just a resistor. but if yours reads really high, finding the right resistance needed is a cheap alternative. mine is off the same as my honda car, 4% high. i used gps and various police radar signs (you know the ones - "your speed is ____"). very helpful when calibrating the speedo. i can deal with it, and sometimes is helpful to believe you're going a little faster than you are. i just do the math - indicated 52 = 50, 73 = 70, etc. so indicated 156 = 150 in my case, although i've never been that fast.

I'm new on this FORUM but not new on a BIKE...the fastest I ever went was 145mph...last night did 142 easy...I don't know if the 06rr is faster than the rest but the bike felt like it could muster up to 165-172...the world looks different at 145mph...everything looks narrow...lol

I'm pretty sure I went 135MPH today. After 130MPH there is no way I'm looking at anything other than the road. I can't even see the speedo at this speed! Crazy!
