So i just bought a airtech tail off craigslist. First thing i can say, is WOW, you guys are right, airtech quality gets a thumbs DOWN.....but then again, i did get it for cheap. Next, its the race tail, that slides over the back part of your seat, making it a solo seat. Its also got a cutout for the break light. I''ve tried slippin it on, realizing that i need to remove the license plate, thne tried again, seeing that i had to remove another thing.....well, i have to go to work now, and i plan to work on it when i get back. But heres the quesiton, hopefully it''ll save me some time too....What all do i need to remove in order to have it fit properly?

I have one on my bike and do not have to remove anything to take it on and off. It''s a pain in the ass and is easier with two people to work it around the control box, seat, rr...etc. but it goes. I got mine new and was disappointed with it as well...I love the solo seat, but the hole for the petcock knob does not even line up! And cutting out the tail-light was a chore! I think over the winter I''m gonna get a whole Cheetah race set from http://www.hyperformanceparts.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=12_10_69 Then my airtech tail will be up for sale (may have to pay someone to take it!)

by the looks of the photos in your avatar, it looks like you cut out more than what i have on mine. mine just has the light cut out, so theres still more crap underneeth it (the tail) while it "looks" like you cut the tailight out, and everything below that? ether way, did you have to take off your passenger brackets? (the giant ones?) if so, what are you using to hold your exhuast up?

I did cut more to accomodate my undertail storage. Maybe that is why it goes on and off so easily. Sometimes I forget that my undertail is aftermarket too!

the fit of the cheetah race plastic ain''t that great either... you''ll have the same problems with the petcock hole not lining up. tedious as it is, i found it a LOT easier to put the tail section on with the tank removed. i scratched the shit out of my freshly painted tank trying it with the tank mounted. I''d also try just removing the tank mounting bolts and sliding it forward some. then you could (hopefully) get the same effect withouth having to disconnect your fuel and vacuum lines.

Well the tank isn''t whats giving me problems, its the tail section, and its giant cluster f**k. lol it seems like everytime i try to get it on, i end up cracking it more.....but it was cracked before (which is why i got it cheap) so i just plastic weld it. i''ll try removing somethings, i think my culprit might be the right passenger/exhaust bracket.

well, i preety much had to remove everything but the subframe itself in order to get this damn tail to fit on. even then, it was a tight fit, and i ended up re-breaking a crack in the tail that i had just finished plastic welding. one word....UGH!

I got a cheetah race tail off of Ebay. The fit was ok but not great or maybe I expected to much. Do they ever fit perfectly? I dont know. Maybe thats why they all need to be fitted. My mech fit it perfectly. All he did was drill the front mounting holes and cut out the tail light and thats it! He didnt cut anymore than he had to. The tail it self just feels flimsy. But I cant complain..I bought it for $95 bucks. Next time I would probably go with SharkSkinz or one of oppracing.com''s Fiberglass, carbon kevlar or carbon fiber bodywork. But one things for sure I love the way it looks on my F2. I even got a sickass pair of fully ajustable rear sets from ebay!!
