HEY GUYS,

I just purchased a 89 Cane and real happy. First Bike and Love everything about it. I was at a stop light and all of a sudden it cuts off and when i try to start it again it wont kick. I dont even hear the starter try to turn. But when I try to start it the headlight goes dim like its giving power to the starter but nothing no noise no nothing. PLEASE HELP....

battery sounds shot. Rectifier could also be bad.

That is what I thought about the battery but what exactly is a rectifier and what does it do also if not a bother where is it located and is there other things that I should replace to tune it up. I just got it and am trying to tune it up as well as replace things that need to be replaced or upgraded but ride it at the same time.

its the voltage regulator, the bike world likes calling em rectifiers lol. And its located on the left side of the tail. You pretty much have to remove the tail fairing to get to it.

Awesome Because the bike has no fairings ... how do I tell if it is bad.

use a multimeter, voltage output shouldnt exceed 14.7, 14.8.

If not that VR and THe battery what else may it be.

These bikes eat batteries... replace the battery and the problem will be solved.

this should work for you ''cane owners too: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/140473.aspx

Its one two or 3 of 3 things... stator, r/r, and/or battery
