What color smoke? White - Water in exhaust. Can be from blown headgasket or just condensation in pipes (which would only occur when first starting) Blue - Burning oil. You can pull the plugs and check to see if any of them are fouled. Thicker oil might help reduce the leaking, but this is usually a sign of another problem. It could be leaking from the piston rings or the head gasket. Black - Running rich. Adjust.
