spdbump36 -> Burning a little oil?? (7/1/2008 9:28:03 PM)

So i''ve been losing/burning a little oil and so i was wondering what i should do. It seems like i burn the most when i am starting the bike up and i see a little smoke. Either way people can smell it when they are driving behind me so what can or should i do. It only has 17k on it. Also would getting the valves adjusted help cause they probably haven''t been done in a long time.

What color smoke?

White - Water in exhaust. Can be from blown headgasket or just condensation in pipes (which would only occur when first starting)

Blue - Burning oil. You can pull the plugs and check to see if any of them are fouled. Thicker oil might help reduce the leaking, but this is usually a sign of another problem. It could be leaking from the piston rings or the head gasket.

Black - Running rich. Adjust.
