Fuse Box?

I think my ignition fuse has gone pop (I think), now I can''t get the lid off the fuse box to check/change it. Is there a trick to cracking it open without brute force?
(I would not want to do this on a dark highway at 11pm at night:P)

Coopz, the main fuse is (as I''''m sure you know)under the right hand side mid-panel. Mine has (I think) a rubber cover over it, but nothing you''''d have to force off ?? I''''ll have another look under there and see if mine''''s any easier, but yes, 11PM on a dark night is NOT recommended ! [:)]
The red bit disengages to give up the fuse, but it''s damned tight ! Rubber cover has to be moved too, as I recall, but I don''t remember any nuts and bolts holding it down which havce to be removed.......I broke the bottom section clip on mine when removing it - makes no difference to the operation...

Mine went pop just after it had finished melting the surrounding plastic just enough to bond it all togther ? this may be the case with yours it may have just got hot enough to stick it all togther just before it blew , i managed to get mine apart with a stanley blade , it sorta still looks like it did when i started , untill i replaced it ? this may also be your problem [8|] ??

Question is WHY did it blow ?? It''s a 30 amp fuse ! Certainly bears some investigation, I would think.....[8|]

It''s not the main fuse, I checked it, its fine.
The ignition fuse I suspect has gone pop. I turned the bike on, it kicked over then died after 2 secs. All the lights went out, battery was not flat.
No life in her:(

Hi,
This all sounds spookily familiar. Take that main fuse holder out and check all the wiring to it. That is normally the culprit. There are 6 connections on that relay. Two for the starter-battery connections, two for the starter relay throw (normally ok) and two for the main fuse, which all the connections do, is route the power through the mounted fuse. Mine looked good, fuse was fine, but melted to hell when taken apart, had to jump out the main fuse holder to a new one. Left the relay contacts intact. Have also had a broken wire under left panel where main fuse holder is located. There is a connector block that had a bad connection in it. Simple to shunt around the block and solder neatly up. For info that connection was under that rubber boot thing surrounding the loom up there.

Actually starting to think my battery has a dead cell, its 9 years old so its probably due for a replacement. Does the CBR require a special battery or is a general purpose 12v motorbike battery ok?

Hi,
So long as it fits in the hole and has the connection posts the right way round, you should be OK. I have a "generic" make in mine, been there for a couple of years now with no issues.
