Hey all, I''ve been reading a lot about linked brakes. Do the 87 models have the "linked brakes" that everyone is talking about? I was wondering because I''m changing out all of my fluids including brake and clutch fluid while I''m waiting on my carbs to get here (should be here on 7-7) . I don''t want to do anything wrong in the process though. Thanks.

No. The linked brakes (or Dual CBS as its name was) came on the 1993 model.

Has anyone attempted to disable the linked brake set up for only the rear brake? What I mean is modify the linked brake system so that when applying the rear brake there is no effect on the front brake, but at the same time maintaining the linked brake effect when applying the front brake (front brake application still applies the rear brake also). I like the linked brake affect when I apply the front brake, but would like to have my brake pedal only affect the rear brake for certain riding situations (trail braking, etc.).

I put some thought into it before I de-linked. I also thought that freeing up the rear would be a good idea. The problem is that when you apply the rear break while linked, the front goes on and applies even more brake to the rear through the secondary master cylinder. If you were to remove the link to the front, you would only have the small cylinder in the rear caliper working. You would have very little stopping power back there. You have to go all the way or not at all.
