anyone have any idea what would cause this... i romped on it from 0-140 then slowed back down and came to a light...after i took off at the light when it would go past 3k it would start making a knocking noise...oil level is fine and the oil only has probably 300 miles on it.

Bike has just a touch over 20,000 miles on it

Cant hear it under nuetral revving, must be under a load..it gets so loud im scared to take it past 6k rpms...sounds like its coming from the head??

sounds like your bottom half is going south....I got a post somewhere in this forum explaining how I know...but I can pretty much guarantee that your crank bearings are shot. drain your oil and look for copper or metal shavings, if get, im right

+1 my first thought was a wrist pin.  It isn''t pinging right, do you have good high octane fuel in it??

couple differnt things. it could be a cam chain tensioner. the cam chain is on the right side under the tank.
if you listen when wearing a helmet the sound could be "thrown" to a different location.
mine did the same thing and it turned out being a dead spot in the chain.. check that and if any of the links are stiff it will make a "knocking" sound every revolution over the chain.

always run 91 in it and i road it with my helmet off to hear it better... i have heard the cam chain now from 2 different people..and i dont think it would be a rod or anything because it doesnt do it at idle or free rev where i had a race car that spun a bearing and it knocked no matter what rpm or if there was/wasnt a load...just in case though im gonna throw it in a buddies truck and take it up to a shop to get a look over i think

Take a peice of garden hose against your ear and press it around the cam chain.... start it cold.. You''ll know right there if it''s a cam chain tensioner and save yourself some time to source out the noise thereafter. A cam chain tensioner is more like a rattle at idle and gets louder at the begining of throttle... Not to spook you but your issue does not sound like a cam chain tensioner :( Best of luck either way...
