i have had a lot of experience with all the electrical on these.
yes, the stock rectifiers get too hot, overheat and burn out easily. you need to test the output at the battery terminal (as instructed by prev posters) and replace your rectifier if needed. i recommend an aftermarket one with cooling fins (maybe Electrosport or other brand for 100 bucks or so)... i had a a few go out on me due to heat etc so make sure that the back is grounded tight to metal the help disperse heat.... i actually installed a computer fan on my rectifier to help disperse heat. no big problems since.
check your battery to make sure it accepts a charge and isnt too demanding on your rectifier. (be sure to do a full slow charge etc on any new battery too)
