I found a video, although it isn''t a crotch rocket, I would assume it is the same thing.  Let me know if this helps.

I just recently had the same problem with my bike. this may help you out or you could be dealing with something different. So I had a good bit of play with my throttle, I took apart the killswitch and the handle, cables and everything looked good. Then I went in deeper I took off the gas tank, and the airbox so I could get down in the the throttle body. Mine was quite simple...on the throttle body there is a metal bracket for the cable to hang on to. there is a little nut on the cable that holds it in place on the bracket then on from there the bare wire goes to the throttle body. What happen to mine was the cable slipped off of the metal bracket causing for the play I was getting. So I just put it back on there tightned it down and no problems ever since.

im not getting a whole lot of play...just enough to notice it when i roll on the throttle

im going to the track next week and want(need) to be able to roll on the throttle more smoothly...i''d say its only about a centimeter or two play

im not sure if that video will help or not...since i dont have a carb to adjust it to

Free play should be 2-6 mm, and you can adjust the free play at either end of the cable... minor adjustments can be made with the upper adjuster, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster.  Major adjustments are made with the lower adjuster.  Remove the air box, and adjust the free play by loosening the lock nut and turning the adjuster.  And you should really buy a manual!
