hey guys...so my friend has a 2003 cbr 600rr that has been sitting in the shop for like a year or so..cuz he blew the motor on the bike. when he found out i was considering getting an RR he brought it up to me and we worked out a deal for him to give me the bike for 2500..and i can even do partial payments on the bike. good deal or no? also i was wondering how much do shops usually charge to install motors? a few of my friends said they will all help me out with the motor swap if i wanted to do it at home instead of taking it to a shop...but i was just curious to how much shops usually charge. also, aside from craigslist and ebay, are there any other places u can get motors from? any info is appreciated. thanks

No offense, but judging from this post you''ll likely be over your head. I''d just get a complete bike and sell me that one he''s got there.....

none taken. but if you read my post, you''ll note that i stated my friends (who have swapped engines before) said they will help me out the whole time. and actually i just found out yesterday the guy''s buddy has a shop nd is willing to do the swap for 500 bucks...which means i just need to find a motor.

i actually am doin a very similar project that you are considering.  But i am rebuilding the damaged engine.  If you know your buddy''s have experience in this area a swap is not so bad.  Get a good manual and knowlegeable help and you should be fine.  Make sure the motor hasnt been sitting too long.  I have seen 2003 bikes ready to run in good shape going for 4500 and less...just shop around...you might save yourself some headache by buying a ready to run ride.  It is a bit of a pain to swap yourself.

Try sportbike salvage yards for the motor, or craigslist.com in your area.  Post want ads there and on here.  good motors are out there...but be prepared to pay close to 1000 for a good low mileage one.
