So how about a show of hands... who here has replaced their CCT (or had it done) and roughly what miles/km did it happen?

Just wondering when I (and others) should expect to have to endure this pleasant experience ;-)

I''m at ~22K miles right now, and all seems to be quiet... should I be nervous?!

I have a sneaking suspicion that in most cases the CCT will outlast the stock cam chain. I just replaced my cam chain last weekend (bike has 26k) and did not replace the CCT. I cleaned, inspected, and tested the hydraulic locking action of the CCT and all seemed well with it. The only thing I couldn''t be 100% sure of is if the spring is as strong as a new CCT. There is not spec given for the spring only that to check it you must compare to a new one. I took the chance that the spring was still good.

I can tell you that my rattling cam chain sound is all gone now and I''m stoked about that! . I can also tell you that my old chain was quite streched compared to the new one. The new chain was a tight fit with the CCT fully extended, so it has it''s full range of motion to take up slack in the new chain as it stretches. I wish I could have compared the new chain side by side with the old one, but you need to feed the new chain into the motor (down around the crankshaft) by tying it to the old one and turning the cranshaft, so that comparison was out. I have a feeling the old chain would have been quite a bit longer than the new one.

Im relatively new to this forum so I am learning quite a bit.  Do I need to wait until the rattling get pretty pronounced?  Im at 42,000 miles now and only hear a little rattle on start up.  Doesnt seem to be too concerning.  I just talked to the previous owner and he said he very seldom ever ran it hard.  I just love this bike!!!  Got 48 mpg on my last fill up.  Im amazed to have so much power and get such great gas mileage.  My other bike has half the horsepower and gets the same gas mileage.

Slight rattle is fine - I still have my original CCT, which has a shorter piston throw, and just fitted a new chain at 37000 miles.  A slight rattle is now coming through,at42500 but I expected that. My last chain stretched one full link in length, and made a helluva noise !!
I''ll fit a new CCT soon, from the later model.
48MPG on a US gallon ? Very good mileage !

It stopped rainging for one day and I got 51MPG on a 360 mile run.
I have about 27k miles on my CCT now. After 10k miles it started to rattle some when cold, not much, just some.

Edit: You will get good milage when you are waithing for the HDs.

26k kms on mine and only the same slight rattle on start up that its always had.

And I''m only getting about 40 mpg (Imp gal). Any hints on getting better? That''s running at about 110 kph or 70 mph most of the time.

Is this issue on all the ''F'' models?

Yup, Coopz, seems to be - more on the earlier models with the "short piston" - much improved after 1992.

I know know it''s been covered before & correct me if I''m wrong (please as I need to replace mine) but I think the later ones fit the earlier model bikes??

Does the rattle cause any damage?  I have the rattle when cold.  Its a 1988 with 17k miles and oringinal cct and chain.  I''m going to change the chain soon.
From another post I got Cam Chain - 82RH2015 150 link and Cam Chain KL12-0408- 82RH2015 Master Link KL12-0353 are these Tsubaki parts?
Do I have to cut the new chain?
