I''ve taken the stock one apart and tightened it up as much as possible, the the seals are just shot. Anybody got any ideas for a replacement other than a new one from Honda? Any such thing as an aftermarket replacement, even a universal one? My bike fuel fouls a plug every few days, and that really bugs me, I know it''s not good for the motor to have that much fuel sitting in a cylinder.

i know its a pain, but heres what i did. i installed a small inline shutoff valve between the stock petcock and the carbs. i reach in through the hole in the fairing where the idle adjuster is at to turn it on and off. its a pain, but better than pulling plugs all the time!!!

Mine doesn''t have that, (the vacuum part, I think the whole thing may have been replaced by a unit from an F3 at some point in time), and Honda says there are no seals or rebuild kit available, only a complete unit. If I could buy the rubber part, I''m sure I could fix it....

I''ve been there, and all they show is complete assemblies. The petcock that''s on mine now has a steel plate riveted over a rubber "gasket", and the "gasket" has raised edges that seal to the steel ball that''s controlled by the valve handle. I''m pretty sure nobody will make that as a service part, in fact, I''m pretty sure you''re not supposed to be able to take the petcock apart, but I did. I drilled right through the swaged metal tips that hold the whole thing together and tapped it for some small machine screws.

Pingle makes a valve.  $125.  No more vacuum hook ups.  I do turn it completely off every time I am done riding.

Now that''s what I''m talking about, thanks. Quite a range of prices out there for the same part, anybody seen them on eBay?

BTW if gas is overflowing from your carbs into a cylinder, or not shutting off properly, you have a bad float needle or float, fix your carbs and you wont need to worry about the petcock.
The floats should push the needles up and shut of the gas eeven if you have a straight line to a drum of fuel.

Are you having this overflowing issue on one carb or all of them ? if this is only on one or two carbs then fixing the petcock will not resolve the issue. If you are having this problem with all of the carbs then it can be as simple as adjusting the air/fuel screws under each of the carbs. Have you mayd any mods to your carbs ?

Seems to be only one carb, and it only happens every so often. At this point, i have disassembled the petcock, removed the rubber and it''s retainer plate, ground seats into the petcock body, staked the steel ball into them and added a stronger preload spring and it''s working well. I''ve had the carbs off of this thing numerous times for both cleaning and tuning. They were totally gummed up when I bought it, to the point it wouldn''t even run. I''ve inspected the needle and seats repeatedly and found no problem with them, plus I''ve had them of for jetting and tuning several times.  I suspect I''ve gotten a little trash in the fuel system. When I did the mods to the petcock, I added an inline fuel filter, and have had no more issues so far. I think I''m still gonna do a Pingle petcock at some point in time though. Thanks for all the suggestion and help guys.
