so as a new owner of a 1998 cbr900rr which was wrecked but definitely repairable, i have come to find that finding a gas tank for this specific year and model is on the lines of trying to spot bigfoot. I realize that purchasing a new tank roughly in the 500-700 dollar price range is always an option but, what would be the fun in that. If anyone has any ideas of the whereabouts of this used ghost part for a reasonable price, i would love to hear your suggestions

from what ive gathered the only tanks that will fit are from the 98-99 models. Ive looked on ebay with negative results and came up empty at multiple salvage yards and used parts warehouses across the country

*wind blows* *lightning flashes*

There is...but one way...to find the ghost. You must wait for it to find you. But you must be ready. You must cast your net upon ebay every day. *thunder booms* You must save multiple searches, including stores only, under at least these three...CBR 900...CBR900RR...900RR...if you are patient...you will be rewarded. Pay close attention to the letters "NOS"...and never buy from anyone less than 99%...

Without such dramatics, SprintRR is right. You''ve just gotta have the $ ready and wait to see it pop up on eBay or in the classifieds on here. I bought some stuff off here with good results, but it all depends who your buying from. Post something in the parts wanted section and just check eBay everyday. I see tanks on there all the time, just search for "900rr" nothing else and you''ll get an average of 300 results, usually 2-5 tanks for various years.

I had the same problem trying to find a tank for a ''99 I was building.  I eventually gave up and bought new.  I saw a couple of mint used tanks for other color schemes bring 300-400 and my new one was 460 so I figured for an extra 100 bucks it wasn''t really worth wating for a nice used one when I could just go with a brand new piece.  In answer to you fittament question, ''96-''99 tanks are the same.  Paint is the only difference.
