My buddy just picked up a 2001 929rr with an arata pipe and a power commander.  I was just wondering how close it will be in a flat out race.  Mine is a 1999 900rr with a supertrapp exhaust and a K&N air filter.  Mine isn''t jetted, but i am looking to do so, depending on if and how bad i loose a race to a 929.

I dunno man, but the 929 has a larger engine right?

And I heard that the 929''s and 954''s don''t weigh all that much so I would imagine it would be quite a feat to beat the 929.

You don''t re-jet if u lose a race, you re-jet if your bike doesn''t run right.  Get that thing on a dyno and let SOMEONE ELSE jet it for you before you break something.

Power is nothing without control. Who has the bigger balls will win the close race.

The 929 weighs less by about 10lbs and makes an honest 10hp at the tire more.  If your buddy out weighs you by a large margin you stand a chance.  From a standing start it all depends on who can get out of the hole better.  Once rolling the 929 should have no problem with you.  If you gear yours down -1 and go with a 520, you''ll fare much better.  Esp if you only go to 130 or so....anything more and the 929 will be realing you back in and probably pretty quickly.  My 99 would hold off my friends 954 through 3rd gear.....it wasn''t until 4th that he caught and passed me.  (Keep the front end down and roll from 1st)

Just what gixxereater said, keep the front end down and gun her. Perfect your launch and quick shift and you can keep well up. Dont rev it all the way in the red to shift, shift at your bikes peak torque band. That will ensure that the most torque hits the next gear. Engine size is only a third of the equation, the other two thirds is the dude on top.

Let us know when you decide to take her for the sprint.

May the man with the biggest "you know what" win.................biggest right wrist.

Ok dinez you can have it man! To the guy with the 900 it will take a lil $ but you can definatley hang with that 929 38.5 flatside carbs and a -1 +2 520 sprocket conversion he''s only pushing 135 hp on that 929 only 10 more than you hell with it put a bottle on and smoke his ass!!

first off...jet kit for the 900rr is not hard to install yourself if you got basic mechanical know how

secondly....there is no replacement for displacement....bigger motor, more power naturally

thirdly...ill roast a 929 down the 1/4 mile ONLY cause I have an 8in stretch and I can make full use of the sprocket and full throttle without having to baby it off the line...any more than the 1/4 forget it...the 929 has more top end power due to the F.I. where the 900 seems to lose the air resistance/horsepower battle the 929 will come out on top...

lastly....im a 900 owner and I''ve ridden many bikes from 77 GS1000s to 08 ZX-10s and the 900 is definitely in a class of its own...its a fun bike and a comfortable one at that...im 6''3 225...it will pretty much spank or hang with the older big bore bikes before it and can hang with the newer ones as well but is quickly being outpowered and undercut in weight...the new 600s are allmost at the same hp numbers and weigh significantly less than the 9...but the 9 will allways get them with the torque...bigger displacement
