150 for the labor charge only is alot MT. For an expert, removing the front, fixing the light and the accesories will take less than an hour actually.

Hope your wife is ok with all this expenses. Mine will not! lol

That''s what I thought.  I''ll probably just take it to a smaller shop.   I don''t have the time or tools to do it

I picked up the bike today and the mechanic showed me the connectors for the rectifier and both connectors were burned/singed badly from the rectifier overcharging the battery.

Anyway, the mechanic told me everything runs well and he said "hopefully" the stator will run well too.  He said they tested the old stator and new rectifier and both are fine.

Rode the bike home and first thing i notice is that the temp gauge needle swung all the way over to "HOT" and stayed there, even after the bike was off.

Also, now my tachometer doesn''t work.

I think what happened was that the previous owner of this bike tinkered with the wiring when they removed the broken headlight (after the bike crashed).

When I first bought the bike, only the turn signal indicator lights worked.

Now...after taking the bike to Honda and having the mechanics try and install the new headlight, only to find they needed more parts, I think they must have touched the wiring for the tachometer and temp gauge.   Also, none of the indicator lights work although the turn signal lights, the high beam headlight, the low beam, the brake light, etc...all STILL WORK.

As for the battery itself, after I rode the bike home and fired it up it started up instantly.

The bike has never done this before.  I also tested the battery with the engine ON and it shows the battery is "Normal" at idle and will charge the battery at around 2,000 rpm!

Now, if only I can get them to fix my tachometer and temp gauge.

That''s quite alot of things involved here MT. Tacho and the fuel gauge are important instruments but still can be manageable. The important problem had been solved. Atleast you can ride her with a peace of mind!

Yes, it felt good knowing the battery is being charged if I just rev it past idle.

That is how it should work!

As for the gauges, it''s not the fuel gauge but the Temp. gauge and the tachometer that are broken.

The fan still kicks on when the bike idles too long so that''s good.

Hey MT

Congrats on the bike so far, that''s great to hear about the charge. So what do you have to say to all of those mechanics that swore on their mothers that the bike will only charge over 5000rpm?

Yep that sounds right and hopefully she wont give another problem like that for a looooong time. Damn man, that price for just the light does seem a lot. I hope they can fix your other gauges so that you can do what the bikes meant to do, be on the road and not in garages.

yup, do not believe mechanics when they say the bike charges at 5,000 rpm. minimum

I''m glad to have my baby back, but it would be nice to know what rpm I''m at and whether my bike is overheating or not

Thanks for the support though Duke it is appreciated!

She goes back to Honda tomorrow.

I''m hoping they can fix it quickly while I wait, but I am not sure how long it will take.

I also hope Honda doesn''t come up with some excuse that I need a completely new instrument panel.

Well, Honda came through and all my instrument lights are working again, even the side-stand light (orange) and the neutral light (green)

As I suspected, the wiring was a mess and the mechanic had a hard time getting it all right again.

The past couple owners messed with the wiring for their own projects and he said it made it harder.

The temp. gauge and the tachometer works great and I also have full-charging of my batt. again.

Used the voltmeter and with the engine ON, the battery shows it''s being normally charged at IDLE, or 1500 rpm.

Thank you everyone for helping me and for your encouragement.  HOpefully this will be the last post like this for a while.

Honda charged me 75 for fixing the wiring, and I think this is fair because the reason the tach. went out and the temp. gauge and all my indicator lights is because of the wiring from the past owners, not Honda.    They also replaced my burnt out neutral light bulb and temp. gauge light bulb at no charge.

Overall I couldn''t be happier with Honda!

Thanks Dinez!

I got to ride her a bit today, but that''s probably it for the weekend.

After I got done with the ride I tested the battery and yup it was fully charged and charging at idle.
