I recently picked up a 98 f3 with bent front end .
To try and make it simple, i got a used set of forks off ebay then was planning to put new seals fresh oil and install.
When the forks arrived they were totally disassembled not a prob except on the damper rod.
I''m not sure where to set the upper aluminum piece with the preload rings onto the threaded section on the steel rod with the lock nut,  I can''t find any spec for that in any service manual either.
I usually leave that on when i have rebuilt forks in the past any simple way to set that ?

Thx Chris !!!!!

Are you referring to the caps that are on the top of the fork?If so,there is no one right way or one wrong way. That adjustment is for you to set where you like it.You gotta play with it some,to find what you like.
