I''''''''ve done alot of research about the drag racing scene I also sat and watched once in the stands for a night from 5-10. I currently run a stock plus slip-on muzzy ''''''''02 CBR 600 F4i. Has 15k miles, bought it with 10,500. I''''''''m 6''''''''3" weighing in at 130 lbs. Other than about 5k miles total riding experience, some on a 01 ZX6R, and some info on the sport, I went to the local 1/4 mile strip @ Great Lakes Dragaway here in Grove, WI. I ran 28 times from 5-10pm.

I held the rpm''''''''s between 3k-5k the whole night and I always feathered the clutch, I guess thats not the right rpm hold range..? I did score some good reaction times but not in the times i have posted here, seems when i did react fast it wasnt a "great" 1/4 or mph run. Had my wheel up about 3 times total. Any advice about a good rpm hold range, and any other input that I may not be thinking of as a first time racer, would be greatly appreciated!! I plan to become a familiar face at the track, every other week from 5-10, maybe more often next year. I also plan to pick up a 1000 of some make/model next year, hopefully!

My first run:
R/T- .722
60''''- 2.067
330''''- 5.189
1/8- 7.759
MPH- 94.61
1000''''- 10.077
1/4- 12.133
MPH- 108.56

AND.. my 3 best runs (based on 1/4 time & mph)

R/T- .196
60''''- 1.901
330''''- 4.933
1/8- 7.496
MPH- 96.74
1000''''- 9.689
1/4- 11.577
MPH- 118.93
-
R/T- .237
60''''- 1.904
330''''- 4.948
1/8- 7.431
MPH- 98.83
1000''''- 9.600
1/4- 11.472
MPH- 119.06
-
R/T- .225
60''''- 1.873
330''''- 4.864
1/8- 7.318
MPH- 99.90
1000''''- 9.464
1/4- 11.321
MPH- 120.62

thats really not bad. I''m not sure what i launch at. i just go with what i feel. i also don;t let off the gas till i pass the stripe. i just clutch as fast as i can. i ran similar times and mph on my f4i i think 11.33 at 125 was my best pass before they kicked me off the track for going over 120 w/o textile or leather pants.

The reason you were slower is probably because you were focusing too much on the lights.Don''t worry about the lights because they don''t effect your time, go when your ready and once you have that down start worrying about the lights.

good advice guys thanks, and thats good news to hear it''s not too bad!! I was hoping to go faster than 120 but not really, because i as well, do not have full leathers either, so I am glad that i can hammer on it all the way to the finish without being worried that they are going to kick me off, next year for the 1000 is leathers time! i actually did end up going up to 140 (not officially)...... i had trouble seeing where the finish line actually was.. lol.

what type of pants did you use, the local track says leather or kevlar pants are acceptable. I don''t know of anyone that has "kevlar" pants, everything from mainstream manufacturers like joe rocket icon shift stuff like that..... comes in some version of nylon, kevlar is in that category, but like my jacket, its heavy duty 630 hitena twill nylon... not just nylon. im having trouble deciding if icon textile pants will be sufficient for racing.

most the time they just mean textile. The track by me is a NHRA track and have to abide by NHRA guidlines. the pit tech told me i could use textile pants as long as they have armor. i borrowed a pair of frank thomas pants.
