Ok..have ridden the bike about 6 times. Yesterday i went on a long trip and by the end, i was having trouble taking off in first gear. the bike would stutter badly then go once the RPM''''s were high. I went to Wally''''s World and bought a charger for the bike. charged it overnight and everything was good to go. so i went for a ride today, about 20 miles to the National Cemetary. start of the trip, everything was good. Was shifting through first and second without any stutter. after about 15 miles of highway, got off and hit a bit of traffic. the bike started to do it again. now, the bike wouldnt start. tried to jump it with a portable batt jumper and it would start up. once the cables were removed, the bike would slowly die out. got it to run for about 1/8 mile and then the entire thing shut off. nothing works; horn, lights, odomiter...nothing. i am thinking it could be the battery but why would it die after a jump? could it possibly be the stator? i have no idea of the bikes mechanical history...

I would like to try to fix it myself before taking it to the local stealership.

could be the battery, could be the regulator rectifier not allowing it to charge. I have not had firsthand experience with this yet, but if the motorcycles are like any other modern vehicle that charges the battery while running, then it should be able to remain running without a battery. I would try to start the bike and test the voltage and see what youre getting. If not much or nothing at all i would look a little further into the charging system before buying a new battery and killing it as well.

UPDATE!!

Put in a new battery and everything looked like it was ready for a start. turned the key...LIGHTS! dont get excited as i am not. i started the bike and she fired right up. then all hell breaks loose and i smell smoke. i take the rear plastic off and i see this module looking thing on the side smoking. WHAT IS IT? I am thinking i got robbed and that i need to take it to the shop for repairs as it seems out of my leage...

Any sugestions?

Your regulator rectifier is fried. There is a known problem with that on a Honda . Change it! I change mine and I'' am happy now

GOOD TO GO!!

Bought a Reg-Rectifier from the stealership and put her in. All systems go. Bike running I get 16v!!! Learning the charging system of a motorcycle was not fun! But my baby is all good now! Went for a lap around the Island today and EVERYTHING felt great!!!

THANKS..
